Re: Tobias vs. Slash
Wikipedia... But the "Hollywood Rose" stuff isn't really that relevant to my argument or anyone else's.
well wiki only cites back off bitch and shadow of your love..as for hollywood rose (from wiki) ...
Hollywood Rose was a pre-Guns N' Roses band of singer Axl Rose and guitarist Izzy Stradlin. The band went through several line-up changes and featured founding guitarist Chris Weber, bass players Steve Darrow and Rick Mars, and drummer Johnny Kreis, and at various times had Slash and Steven Adler playing as well.
According to his book, Slash didnt even know who Huge was until he was brought in to replace Gilby
"Anything Goes" (Stradlin, Rose, Weber)
"Reckless Life" (Rose, Stradlin)
"Shadow Of Your Love" (Rose, Stradlin, Weber, Huge)
"Don't Cry" (Stradlin, Rose)
"Back Off Bitch" (Rose, Huge)
"November Rain" (Rose)
"Oh My God" (Tobias, Reed, Rose)
"Chinese Democracy" (Rose, Freese)
"Better" (Rose, Finck)
"Street of Dreams" (Rose, Stinson, Reed)
"If the World" (Rose, Pitman)
"There Was a Time" (Rose, Tobias, Reed)
"Catcher in the Rye" (Rose, Tobias)
"Riad N' The Bedouin's" (Rose, Stinson)
"I.R.S." (Rose, Tobias, Reed)
"Madagascar" (Rose, Pitman)
"Prostitute" (Rose, Tobias)

Re: Tobias vs. Slash
Played the original/created the guitar parts. If we went by who has credit on a sleeve as the song writer... Axl would un-doubly be the greatest multi-instrumentalist of all time.

It's typical of you Neemo to read one line in one of my posts, and ignore everything else.

i read your whole post....but how do you know who played the orig parts of songs? as far as i understood Dont Cry was written by the band to get them their record contract...before AFD but then shelved until a later date...same with NR....it was my understanding that Slash is the acoustic guitarist on the demos...and i'll tell ya if Slash doenst get credit for NR there is no way that Tobias is getting one
as for the CD sessions they appear to be so peice meal, again we dont know who was present for what part of the writing
but your initial question is who had a greater creative influence on GnR? Slash man....no contest
Tobias played on the original demos, Slash did re-do it in his own style... but he was for the most part playing parts already created by some one else.
if slash re did it then it was totally scrapped and revamped
Creativity is creating the music not playing it.
so do writing credits count or not?
Tobias was involved before their even was a GNR.
so was slash, izzy, duff, steven, tracci guns, rob gardner, ole beich, chris weber...etc etc
from what i understand Axl left tobias in indiana...it wasnt until credit was given on BoB and Izzy left was the freindship rekindled...Huge was part of a band with Axl and Izzy before they left for LA....the subsequent exploits and rise to fame, i dont beleive, were experienced with tobias around...hell axl didnt even know his proper name in 2002

Slash only wrote the guitar parts to just over 1/2 those songs... Playing another guys parts isn't being creative.
The guy who wrote them and played them the first time was.

If I learned to play "There Was A Time" today, would I get credits as a song writer. Anyway Slash is not credited for anything he didn't originally play on.
So yeah they count, but the argument we seem to be having here isn't about those songs.
^ And this is the last time I'm going to say guitar parts in this thread, while you "dick around".
Re: Tobias vs. Slash
(A.X.L.)'d play covers in the garage. There were no clubs to play at, so we never made it out of the garage.
Slash wrote guitar parts for any orig material of guns from AFD, Lies, UYI1 and UYI2....regardless of who intially play Eb, Gb, Ab, Db on the guitar and called it back off bitch, the guys in the band at the time were the ones who took the rough outlines of songs and made them into great GnR tunes...it doesnt matter how you slice it Slash was a much bigger part of GnR than tobias ever will be..responsible for the sound of the guitars, the majority of the solos, and a huge part of the band image
I dont know how to get my point across any clearer than that...if you are insistant that Huge is a bigger influence on GnR than Slash was then i can't do anythign to change that...but please pass the spliff when you are finished cuz i'd like some of what you're smokin
