Man, let's hope this isn't the start of another trio of losses:

Former NFL quarterback Steve McNair has been shot and killed. He was 36.

Steve McNair played 13 NFL seasons.
Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron confirmed that police were called to a residence and found McNair and a woman shot to death inside. Aaron said authorities don't yet know the circumstances of the shooting.

"I don't have any answers for you now as to what's happened, who's responsible," he said.

Aaron said police have tentatively identified the woman but did not release her name.

Titans owner Bud Adams also confirmed the quarterback's death in a brief statement released Saturday.

Adams called him "one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl."

McNair played 11 seasons in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans franchise and then spent two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.

He was a three-time Pro Bowler and was the Co-AP NFL MVP in 2003.

McNair played in the "Music City Miracle" game in 1999, when his Titans stunned the Buffalo Bills with a kickoff return touchdown in the final seconds in their AFC Wild Card playoff game.

McNair led the Titans to the Super Bowl that season, where they lost to the Rams. With the Titans driving for a potential game-tying score in the fourth quarter, McNair completed a pass to Kevin Dyson in the closing moments but Dyson was stopped at the 1-yard line.

I liked this guy, that game against the Rams was one of the finest Super Bowls I've ever witnessed.  McNair always had class about him and he seemed to be a really down to earth guy who just liked to play football.

Not a fan, but this is a horrific tragedy. Way too young to die. I was actually shocked he was 36. Expected him to be a bit older since he was retired.

Hopefully this isn't drug related. Its probably some sort of domestic situation since he was murdered at his girlfriend's house.

Was never a fan, but you were mega talented and actually stopped the Bills making one last run while they were still a solid team.

(CNN) -- Former NFL quarterback Steve McNair was shot multiple times, including once in the head, at a Nashville, Tennessee, condominium, authorities said Saturday.

Police said they found McNair and a woman identified as Sahel Kazemi shot to death after receiving a phone call about an injured person.

McNair's body was found seated on a living room sofa, authorities said.

Kazemi sustained a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said. Police also said a pistol was found near her body.

Autopsies were scheduled for Sunday.

Asked whether the shooting was a murder-suicide, Don Aaron, spokesman for the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department, said investigators have not classified the incident . He said investigators have not ruled out anything but added that they were not "actively looking at suspects" Saturday night.

"I suspect we'll have something to say tomorrow," Aaron said.

The bodies were found just two days after Kazemi was pulled over in a Cadillac Escalade, registered to her and McNair, and charged with a DUI, Aaron said. McNair was in the vehicle at the time.

Although Aaron described Kazemi as McNair's "friend," a law enforcement source close to the investigation said that the woman is McNair's girlfriend and that the residence is her condominium in downtown Nashville.

Witnesses said McNair was a frequent visitor at the condominium.

Authorities were questioning people who were near the home, but they said no one was in custody.

Police could not provide details about the circumstances of the shooting. VideoWatch police update reporters on McNair's death »

Investigators don't think McNair's wife, Mechelle, who is "very distraught," was involved, Aaron said.

McNair's family issued a statement through a spokesman Saturday, saying, "The families of Steve McNair in Mississippi and Tennessee appreciate the concern, thoughts and prayers during this difficult time of our lost of a husband, father and son. The family requests everyone would allow them time to mourn."

McNair's brother, Fred, also confirmed the death but had no immediate details.

McNair, 36, spent 13 seasons in the NFL, the majority with the Tennessee Titans, and was named the NFL's co-MVP along with Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning in 2003. He spent his last two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens before announcing his retirement in April 2008.

The owner of the Titans, Bud Adams Jr., said in a statement that the organization was "saddened and shocked" to hear of McNair's death.

"He was one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans," Adams said.

"He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl."

The Titans marked a Super Bowl loss to the St. Louis Rams in 2000.

McNair attended Alcorn State in Mississippi.

Dozens of fans who rushed to the crime scene were rattled by the news of McNair's death.

"I'm in shock. It's so hard to believe," Sonya Hughes told CNN affiliate WKRN. "Tennessee Titans, Steve McNair -- on the Fourth of July."

Ludy Wallace, former Nashville city councilman, remembered McNair as a "friendly" guy.

"I think he made an everlasting impression with people he came in contact with and the people that attended his [football] camps," Wallace told CNN affiliate WTVF.

CNN's Mayra Cuevas and Mike Brooks contributed to this report.

Wow, that does sound odd...could a fight have broke out between Steve and his girlfriend and she shot him to death then killed herself or vice versa?

With the authorities not looking for anyone it must be they believe this scenario or that it was a double suicide.

Apparently, she bought the gun after she was arrested for DUI last Thursday, which is interesting since she is only 20yrs old.  McNair was killed with four shots--two to the head and two to the chest.

I'll remember McNair for all the great things he did on the football field--the 69yd td run to beat TB on Sunday Night football in 1998, the mad scramble and throw in the play prior to the last one in SB34, going nuts during the 2003 season and leading the Titans to several blow outs during that season.  In some ways he is a pioneer as he came from a small school--predominanetly black--to  become an NFL star.  He was also the first of the new wave of black scrambling qbs (ok Cunningham deserves a lot more credit here)--McNabb, Vick, Culpepper.

It's interesting that I can actually plot out his career in stages:

1995-1999  Primarily a scrambler, helped by Eddie George who was a pro bowl caliber RB at this point.

2000-2004  Developed as a passer.  Deadly on third downs.  Very accurate at throwing on the move/rolling pocket.  Aside from 2000, Eddie George was useless as he posted awful numbers as a RB.  From 2001-2003 McNair carried the Titan offense culminating with his 2003 NFL co MVP award.

2005-2007  His skills began to erode because of poor conditions and injuries finally taking a toll.  He became a caretaker qb with occassional glimpses of the 2001-2003 McNair.

Unfortunately, I don't think he has enough numbers to get into HOF.  McNabb will get there;  I don't know about Cunningham.  He was my favorite player on the Titans.

Oh yeah, James I don't think he did much in that 99 playoff game.  The offense aside from George was awful.  The Bills special teams--and coaching (Rob Johnson starting?)--screwed the pooch on that one.

Farewell Steve and may you rest in peace.

Wow, that sure seems like she had the intent of killing him at that point. I always figured it had something to do with them being caught together (him wanted to end it before the public catches on). She seems bitter & not wanting it to end. Crazy bitch, that's for sure.

Good post Slashisfro, yeah, he was a great player. I don't think he'll ever be in the HOF, but he's one of those who will be among the best who aren't.

They're officially saying its a murder suicide:

Police: Girlfriend Killed Steve McNair in Murder-Suicide

Wednesday, July 08, 2009
NASHVILLE, Tenn.  —

Police confirmed Wednesday that ex-NFL star Steve McNair's 20-year-old girlfriend killed him before turning the gun on herself.

They said they may never know what was going through Sahel Kazemi's mind when she shot McNair in his condominium early Saturday, but interviews with friends led detectives to conclude she was becoming increasingly distraught over events in her life, including financial problems. Police said she also suspected McNair was seeing another woman.

Police earlier had labeled McNair's death a homicide, but awaited further tests and investigation before saying for sure what happened.

At one point, Kazemi told an associate that her "personal life was all screwed up," Police Chief Ronal Serpas said. She had mounting debts and had been unable to sell her car. Her roommate was moving, which would have doubled her rent.

"We do know that she was clearly sending a message during the last five to seven days of her life that things were going bad quickly," Serpas said, though there was no indication she told anyone she planned to harm McNair.

Serpas said police believe McNair was asleep on a sofa when Kazemi shot him in the head. She then apparently shot him twice in the chest before shooting him again in the head and then shooting herself.

McNair, a quarterback for the Tennessee Titans most of his career, was shot at a condo he rented with another man. The gun was found underneath Kazemi.

Kazemi's family told reporters that the woman was so confident McNair was divorcing his wife of 12 years that she was preparing to sell her furniture and move in with him.

But associate Mike Mu, who has worked with McNair's charitable association for years, said McNair's wife, Mechelle McNair, "didn't know who this girl is." No records of divorce proceedings have surfaced.

Mechelle McNair, who has not spoken publicly since the shooting, has been described by people close to her as being very upset and distraught. Agent Bus Cook said McNair's wife was "in and out" of it in the hours after the shooting.

Two days before the shooting, police stopped Kazemi driving the Escalade sport utility vehicle that McNair gave her for her birthday in May.

According to an arrest affidavit, Kazemi had bloodshot eyes and alcohol on her breath. She refused a breath test and told an officer "she was not drunk, she was high." She was charged with DUI. McNair was with her but not charged. He later made her bail.

Mu is handling media inquiries for Thursday night's memorial service in Nashville. A funeral service will be held Saturday in Mississippi.

The close friend who reported McNair's death to 911 defended his friend since their days playing football at Alcorn State to The Tennessean. Robert Gaddy, who did not immediately return a text message to his cell phone from The Associated Press on Wednesday, said the the McNairs' Nashville home was on the market because they were looking for a new house.

"People need to quit talking about what they don't know. Mac never said anything to me about he was going to get a divorce, and ever since this has all happened everybody is trying to paint a certain picture and they need to talk about what they know," Gaddy told newspaper.

The four-time Pro Bowl quarterback was being remembered Wednesday at the stadium where he played much of his career. The Tennessee Titans opened LP Field for fans to watch video highlights of McNair's 13-year NFL career, look at photos of the quarterback and had a book for them to write messages that will be given to the family.

The McNairs married in 1997, and Mechelle is the mother of two of his four sons. She met McNair while both were students at Alcorn State, though she also studied nursing in Nashville and became a nurse while he played for the Titans.

Mechelle McNair tended his numerous injuries at home, changing bandages and even helping with intravenous fluids in 2001 when her husband needed I.V. antibiotics for an infection that developed after shoulder surgery.

He was married you dipshit. YOU were the other woman.

Kinda funny how a woman you're having a fling with expects faithfulness. Thats like a fish asking another fish not to suck in water to breathe.

McNair, a quarterback for the Tennessee Titans most of his career, was shot at a condo he rented with another man.

Sounds like one of those situations where a few married guys rent a home together to screw around on their wives.

A multi millionaire doesn't need to share rent with anybody.

This death is no longer shocking. He picked a very unstable woman to screw around with, and her financial difficulties and her coming to the realization that she wouldn't be more than three warm, moist holes for him sent her over the edge.

Those always made the best Jerry Springer episodes.. When the guy was cheating on his girlfriend or wife.. then he was cheating on the other girl too, and the 'other girl' would get just as upset as the real girlfriend or wife did.
