Its different in Canada and the US though because the countries are so big with so many stations. This is in the only rock station in Scotland, it launched about 3 years ago and its the first time the northern half of the UK have a rock station.
Its a great station, very interactive with fans and reguarly putting on events for the listeners. AC/DC never included a Scotland date for the UK tour and the station had a big campaign and petition to get a show and we got one, AC/DC finished the European leg of their world tour with a massive show in the national stadium!Its all I listen to, the chances of hearing GNR or anything good on the big national stations like Radio 1 are zilch, they just play the shit of the day.
The only way GNR would get airplay on those would be if they were active with a single doing well in the charts.
We've got rock stations on digital radio but you are right. They are the ONLY FM Rock Radio station.

A couple of months before the station launched I was driving along to work one morning, and was getting sick of whatever cd I had brought with me. I put on the radio for a change and it was some pop shite that was own so I just hit the autotune button and it scanned for a couple of moments and then "But that old man he's a real muthafucker, Gonna kick him on down the liiiine" burst through the speakers. I was like WTF! They were checking the signal for the new channel and throwing on some tunes

My wife and both my kids are red heads so i feel your pain 
... or i feel the pain that red heads can inflict
