Damn, I misread the choices.  I saw Family Guy and thought it was going against "The Simpsons".  I chose Family Guy.  I probably would've chosen Sopranos if I had read it correctly and didn't rush to vote.  Hope my vote isn't a deciding factor as it is right now.

So you'd vote Family Guy over the Simpsons??  I know the Simpsons have been downhill lately but still.....

Yeah without hesitation, that's why I was so quick to vote.  I haven't watched the Simpsons in at least 10 years.  Doesn't do anything for me anymore.

Understandable but we're voting for the series' as a whole ever, not the best "current" show on TV. (i think.. aren't we??)

Frankly, The Simpsons hasn't been good in 10 years. The movie was the best thing they had done since the heyday. The first 9-10 seasons of The Simpsons is CLASSIC comedic TV. The last 9-10 have been boring, filler, paycheck, garbage.

Now on to this match up...

Bit of a mixed bag. And an odd match up. Both The Sopranos & Family Guy had 'down' periods in terms of quality. Of the 6 seasons of The Sopranos, Season 1 is kind of the "finding it's feet" season, but by the end it's very good. Seasons 2-4 are some of the best hours in the history of TV. Very good. Season 5 is where the "turn" happened. It started to go downhill. Season 5 banked on the Tony B character being interesting, and no offense to Steve Buscemi, but the character didn't interest me at all, and alot of that season wrapped around that. It finished strong, but the spittering and sputtering in the fuel tank was starting to take place. The show's 6th and final season, was virtually unwatchable. Absolutely HORRIBLE. The first half from the 2006 batch, seemed bad, until we got the final episodes in 2007. Those episodes made the year before's seem better in comparison. The series was limping at that point, and David Chase didn't give a fuck. The thing that amazed me of it all, is that the final episode, and i'm not even talking good or bad, but just it's production, seemed half-assed and thrown together at the last minute, which amazes me, because i've seen other shows, less popular, with shorter runs, that were given the cancellation notice LATE, and came up with better produced final episodes, with more depth. Chase was given THREE YEARS, and it seemed like something thrown together at the 11th hour to try and give it some finality.

Family Guy. The 'original' series, as I like to refer to it... classic. The Simpsons on steroids. Bigger, better, raunchier... great show. Those first three seasons are classic. But the 'revival' Family Guy when it came back in 2005, and what's currently airing today. Absolute garbage, and virtually unwatchable. American Dad, another Seth MacFarlane show, is 10 times better.

Both shows as a collective whole, are a mixed bag. So really it comes down to the fact that i'll take a crime drama, over a sitcom if given the choice.

Sopranos

As soon as writers for The Simpsons resorted to giving them wacky adventures every week and making the charactors parody's of themselves, they should have realised it was now time to walk away.

Anyhoo, Sopranos for this round.

Wow.......

First couple seasons of The Sopranos is perfection. Very few things in TV history can top that. Still blows my mind I went almost ten years before watching it.

Don't feel bad. I didn't pick it up until 2006, and at that point the majority of the series had aired other than the final episodes in 2007.

Because I mistakenly voted for Family Guy.  Otherwised it'd be a 2 vote swing for Sopranos.

I too didn't start watching The Sopranos until the last 2 seasons but I soon found out what all the fuss was about.

We have a tie. According to IMDb The Sopranos has a rating of 9.5/10 based on 26,737 votes and Family Guy has a rating of 8.8/10 based on 42,225 votes. With that being said...

Family Guy, bring me your torch.
