Tough matchup for only round 2.  A big shows going down in this one. Hopefully, Al's got 4 more touchdowns in him.

Probably a bit of an event more than anything. When it first came out in 84 it was HUGE!!  Probably the #1 show for a couple years, then topped by Cheers but still held high. Those 2 & Miami Vice probably made the 80's imho.

It was different too then. You didn't have original programming on cable, Fox wasn't around yet.  So you really only had NBC, ABC & CBS. When a show was big it was big. I'd say Seinfeld was the last of them.

I'd say Dallas had a pretty big hand in defining the 80's also. I don't count Dynasty too much, because it was basically a knockoff.

Not too many shows today would have almost worldwide viewership at the same time, to find out who shot JR, which happened like 4-5 episodes into Season 4. Bobby getting shot, Bobby dying, and Bobby returning were all watercooler, cultural relevance moments also.

In hind sight, the last show I remember being a big deal, it's end, a network show, was Everybody Loves Raymond (CBS). And it's series finale I think did maybe 30 million viewers. That's as big as it gets for network TV anymore.

As for Cosby, maybe it was a "you had to be there" thing, I dunno. I am old enough to remember watching The Cosby Show weekly, all-new in the late 80's/early 90's. Although by that point, it had seen it's cultural zenith.

Even in reruns, I just never got what was such a big deal about the show. And most of my favorite shows are from the 80's, so it's certaintly not a "time" thing.

Married With Children, The Golden Girls & Mama's Family are probably my favorite sitcoms ever, all products of the 80's.

Married With Children was a fun little show, but Cosby was much more impactful and better overall.

Lisa Bonet was HOT.  Not skanky hot like Kelly Bundy, but still.
