Re: GnREvolution T.V. Madness - Round 2, Battle 14
No it doesn't. South Park will be just as much one of the legendary animated comedies, as Seinfeld was legendary live action comedies.
I STILL think South Park, and Matt Stone & Trey Parker's satirical ability is UNMATCHED, and still vastly underappreciated, mainly because they are conservatives in a business full of liberals.

i wouldnt necessarily call them conservative, if I'm not mistaken they are both quoted as saying they try to toe the line with their comedy...and they do a very good job at it.
take the episode "best friends forever" for example, which was a take on the terry schiavo fiasco.
when kenny's will is finally discovered, and the part of being in a vegetative state is read, they have the option of going the conservative route (pull the plug) or the liberal route (let him live), yet instead, the part of the will reads "if i am ever to be in a vegetative state please, for the love of god, don't ever show me like that on national television." ...classic.
contrast this with family guy, who in recent seasons has really taken on the ultra-liberal persona of its creator...this leads to alienating a lot of people, and frankly, being not that funny.

also you could ague that it is underappreciated because they are on comedy central, and not a major network like family guy, the simpsons, and whatever else fox has in its primetime sunday slot.

I can't believe Seinfeld is loosing to South Park...come on...Seinfeld was years ahead of it's time and a work of social ettiquite genius.....

ok, but south park is neither before its time or after its time...its DURING our time. It is literally a diary of the world, put together in a brilliantly comedic way.

True, but what I was referring to was their personal opinions themselves, not so much South Park. Hollywood loved them during the 'Bigger, Longer, Uncut' movie era, but disowned them when they put out Team America, which pretty much pointed the finger squarely at liberal Hollywood.
The art of great satire is it's willingness to poke fun at both sides, without choosing a side. Problem with shows like Family Guy is A) it isn't funny (lately), and B) they criminalize conservatives and the Bush adminstration, while treating the left like heroes.
Seth MacFarlane also does it even more so with American Dad, which squarely treats neo-cons as bigoted, homophobic, gun nuts. MacFarlane never shows willingness or even ability to make fun of the other side, which makes his shows come across as political propaganda, rather than satire... unlike South Park.
Just like with the Obama thing, that irritates me. These comedians that refuse to come up with jokes to poke fun at Obama with. Their excuse, "well, he's just too cool of a prez. There's nothing you can get to make fun of him, he's just too cool". What you really mean is, "i'm too scared to satirize a black man". Just say it.
I think the bonus for South Park is it is on Comedy Central, rather than network TV. Network TV would be too incredibly watered down, and censored, castrating the show.
Did you ever see the 2-parter, "Cartoon Wars", where they basically pointed the finger at Family Guy?

In "GnREvolution Television Madness" fire represents death, when the Show's theme song plays, the show goes up in flames, when the names are read, the decision is final and they must leave the tribal council area immediately. I'll go tally the votes.
Seinfeld, bring me your torch.
