That's pretty funny. Seemed like the band was firing on all cylinders. The only "sound and music" weak link was Axl's embarrassing vocal performance. Just how in the hell do you let things like that and the VMAs happen? Such high profile performances and you just bomb -- these two cemented new Guns legacy for the public, unfortunately.
If 2006 Axl showed up in 2001/2002, we'd be looking at a way different situtation.
Btw, it's generally accepted on youtube that the T shirt Axl confiscated during It's So Easy at RIR said "Slash is GnR," is there a source to this?

Really? You might wanna check again.
yeah during the BIG hits, the crowd is pumped, but there is still a lot of silence between songs, especially after oh my god.

New or unknown songs don't get much reaction. It's no surprise. I expect the same to happen on the Chinese Democracy World Tour 4.

Pretty unique experience to see that reaction. Axl was dead fuckin' on, and the energy was through the roof. It might as well been Jungle...
Yes the responce to the new songs in Melbourne was pretty upbeat as well. especially considering the album wasn't out it was only the hardcores amongst the audience who knew them.
The energy is why I'd love to see more of the new album done live, of course with some of the old favs mixed in, but stuff like Riad, Scrapped and Shackler's live would kick butt I think.

Well the new shows I went to, the new songs were hit and miss. CD & Better instantly grabbed the audience, Street of Dreams was mixed, and people were walking out for a piss break during I.R.S.
But the performance of CD was stellar. Just great energy, and really fuckin' cool.

Never been to a show in my life were new unknown songs went down as well as familiar songs, people tend to just listen more. RIR2 the new Illusions material had a subdued responce compared to the well known songs, its no biggie. The albums out now and people have their favourites, or not, it'll be intresting to see what songs go down well next time around.

Yeah exactly, casual fans never want to hear new songs. They want to hear the hits that they know. And if the lead singer EVER announces "this is something off our new album", you're guaranteed a mass exodus to the concession stand/bathrooms. I went to the MSG show with some friends in 2006 and one of my friends had a GREAT time, but left to get beers everytime they played a new song. It just happens.
