Re: The 2009 NFL Season Thread
Don't have a link here but the Bills met with Shanahan for 7 hours yesterday and were interested in Gruden, so it looks like they will be looking at a name coach. I think they get rebuffed by Holmgren though.
Lovie Smith is in trouble as there are rumors of his job being in jepoardy. There was also a rumor of Martz coming in as OC after Ron Turner gets canned. That would be a bad combo with the Bears OL problems this year.

Re: The 2009 NFL Season Thread
I think the Saints are doing alright. And I'll trust Gregg Williams' number 1 in the league defense to know what it has to do.
Also, gotta give congrats to Perry Fewell for getting his first win as a head coach, against the hated Phins no less, while putting up 31 points. Great outing for a Bills team that had lost 3 or 4 in a row to Miami. TO gets another good game.
Re: The 2009 NFL Season Thread
Maybe I'm the only one who remembers Williams from the Redskin days when he blew games against the Pats (amongst others) for choosing coverage over pressure. I'm not even going to talk about his Jaguars stint...
And if I were Kerry Collins I'd be PISSED that those horrible wide outs have suddenly decided to to start catching passes.

Re: The 2009 NFL Season Thread
I remember Gregg Williams when he head coached for Buffalo and I hated him then. Horrible game management skills but I'd trust him with a defense. Key stop on 4th down there. This has been a very fun game to watch.
Re: The 2009 NFL Season Thread
If the Patriots could only play defense, get pressure on the quarterback, run the ball, and play ALL their games at home, they'd be Super Bowl favorites. BUT, that's not the case.
First time in a LONG time Brady lost a REGULAR season game to an NFC team. Tonight was a good indicator of why Belichick decided to go for it on 4th and 2 against the Colts. The defense can't stop GOOD QB's. Bad to mediocre QB's, they've got a shot at. But once the GOOD ones figure them out, it's game over for the defense. At least it'll be a lot easier to sleep this one off then the Colts loss..
Back to the drawing board for the Pats, as the focus shifts to just winning the AFC East now. IF the #2 seed somehow falls in their lap, then so be it. But I don't see how that's possible since they can't seem to be able to win on the road.
It's also been a LONG time since the Pats lost back to back games and next week they are @Miami. A place they always have their troubles (minus 2007).
Re: The 2009 NFL Season Thread
Yeah, the Saints definitely have to be considered legit contenders now. They've always had trouble beating good teams, and it appears that is no longer the case.
If there was ever a team that needed home field advantage in the playoffs, it's this one.

Re: The 2009 NFL Season Thread
I imagine it's pretty hard to get excited for Bills/Jets in Canada tonight on the NFL Network. But it might be fun, you never know, the first meeting was truly hilarious. If Perry Fewell can get a winning record in games he coaches he could have a real shot at that job.
The march to 7-9 continues tonight!
