No it wasn't. Vietnam, riots, massive racial tension, serial killers becoming more common, atrocities all over the globe,etc. is what defined the 60s.
Mayberry never existed, and if it did, Andy was a closet homosexual, Otis a wife beater, Barney suffering from an inferiority complex, Aunt Bee abusing Opie, and Gomer cruising the local school for 10 year old boys.
Yes there are small towns with an outward appearance of innocence, but Mayberry only exists on TV.

Right now, i'm kinda stuck, because I have my tuition paid for in a Florida-only school. But as soon as I get to graduate school, i'm getting the fuck out of this fag-hatin', dumbass, ignorant, redneck, jive ass, piece of fucking shit state, known as fucking Florida.
If you're gay in Florida, you can't get married, you can't adopt, and now apparently, you can't even be straight, and play someone gay. It's getting ridiculous. Sure, it's 'tax credits' right now... but where does it end? Next it'll be all gay characters will be banned from art/entertainment. Then it'll be all pro-choice characters.
I'm outta here man. Seriously. Just give me two years, and fucking outta here. GOD how I hate this prejudice-ass state...

There are 'parts' of Florida I love. I truely love the countryside. Swampy at times, but the natural scrub land can be beautiful. I also love the wide open spaces of the middle of the state. The beaches are beautiful.
BUT
The people suck. Especially the crackers out in the sticks. They are absolutely CLUELESS to the ways of the world. You can't talk to them. They are prejudice as hell, hold their cross, talk about how the fags and wetbacks (there words, not mine) are scourge of the earth...
I just can't stand it anymore. I need to be somewhere more enlightened. I love this state... but there's only so much a poor white boy can do.

Given the usa is so big on civil rights overall, I find this kind of law a bit surprising as it seems to be actively discriminating against gay people.
But getting broader, I wonder what they are actually trying to achieve. Like to the straight guys on here, who amongst you will become attracted to a man after watching a sitcom with a gay man? I know I won't. So what is the actual fear? Seems to me people are either born gay or not. It's not like someone gets influenced by television surely?
I also don't get why family values has to mean anti-gay. I mean most people like the core of family values. the idea that you can have a family, raise some kids if you wish, and that we all live togehter peacefully and happily in a safe enviroment for those kids.
But the major things stopping that arn't gays. it's violence, crime and a bunch of other social and economic factors. This seems like misplaced fear to me.

Florida is deep in the bible belt. The bible says homosexuality is an abomination to God - and they hang on that. They ain't gonna budge. What the stupid thumpers don't understand, is that you're not born with that belief. You CHOSE that belief. Black people didn't chose to be black. Gay people did not chose to be Gay.
I mean come the fuck on... who would actively CHOSE to be gay? So your friends can talk shit about you? So your family can disown you? So you can lose job opportunities? So you can't get married? So you can't have children? You can't have a family?

What blows my mind, is now the defense of these Christians is, if you question them, on their trampling of gays civil liberties, they then in turn call you a "bigot" for not supporting their religious beliefs, which deny gays any acknowledgement.
At the same time i've got so much to say, I couldn't be more speechless at their illogical arguments.
