Re: Blockbuster is 'bleeding to death'
Axlin I guess you and me have different tastes, I'd say on the whole if there's one genre that's flourished in this past decade, it's comedy. I'm not a consistent Judd Apatow fan and certainly there's a ton of shit movies made (the 'Epic Movie' type comedies) but there are in my opinion, a lot of great comedies being made in the past 10 years. The Hangover came out last year and I really think that's one of the best comedies I've ever seen. I realize it may not be everyone's cup of tea but I watch that movie and see a raunchy combination of Big Lebowski and Memento.
Re: Blockbuster is 'bleeding to death'
Granted i'll give you that. Hangover was a really good comedy not seen in awhile, while Judd Apatow's films seem to be "throwback" comedies. Raunchy with a morality undertone. Kind of reminds me of a cross between Adam Sandler and John Hughes.
Knocked Up was good, Superbad was good, Forgetting Sarah Marshall was okay.
I just don't think a handful of movies in two decades, makes up for the rest of the bad ones. 1980's back, were churning out multiple classics each year.

Re: Blockbuster is 'bleeding to death'
Serves the bastards right IMHO. I swear my family was on their shit list back in the day. We never returned any movies late, yet they seemingly always tried to bill us late fees. We would call them and tell them exactly when we returned the movies, and sure enough they would find them in the store because one of their employees conveniently didn't check it back into their computer system correctly. I say conveniently because of how often this shit would happen. One or two times is an accident. Practically every time we rented is a pattern. We eventually dropped them and went with Hollywood.
