Bret Michaels's health has taken a turn for the worse, PEOPLE has learned: After an excruciating headache late Thursday night, the star was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where doctors discovered he suffered a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage (bleeding at the base of his brain stem), according to a source close to the situation.
Michaels, 47, is currently in critical condition. "After several CAT scans, MRIs and an angiogram, [doctors] decided to keep Michaels in the ICU and are running several tests to determine the cause. [It] will be touch and go for the next few days while he is under intense observation," the source says.
The rocker's latest hospital visit follows his emergency appendectomy in San Antonio, Texas, on April 12. There is no word yet whether this new development is related to the rocker's recent appendectomy or to his diabetes.
After his appendectomy, Michaels remained in the hospital under his doctors' care '“ then transferred to a rehab facility specializing in diabetic patients.
As he was recovering, Michaels '“ who was still in the running to win this season of NBC's Celebrity Apprentice '“ seemed to be in good spirits and updated fans on his progress.
"They told me that if I had gone on stage like I wanted to, [my appendix] likely would have ruptured and I could have died," he wrote in a note to his fans. "There is just no way around the fact that getting your appendix out HURTS. I have a pretty good threshold for pain, but this one hurts."

always makes me wonder about Gnr (original) and what its gonna be like when 1 of them passes over to the other side.. not wishing that on Brett, not by any means. Just when artists die or take a turn for the worse, makes me think.

Bret's a good dude. I hope he pulls through this - it sounds kind of serious.

I don't know much posion. but I enjoy a few of his songs that I know, best wishes for a full recovery and my thoughts to his family.
I agree with the OP as well about original GNR, I think we're really blest that they're all still doing their things, as when you look at their lifestyles in their 20s is amazing they're even alive.
Re: Bret Michaels Hospitalized (Again) with "Warning" Stroke
Not much of a fan anymore, but in 1986 Poison, David Lee Roth, etc. were the soundtrack of my life. I hate reality shows so never watched his Rock of Love crap.
Hope he makes it through this as any type of hemorrhage is risky business.
Re: Bret Michaels Hospitalized (Again) with "Warning" Stroke
LOS ANGELES - Bret Michaels is in critical condition suffering from a brain hemorrhage, his publicist said Friday. Joann Mignano confirmed a report on People magazine's website Friday that said the former Poison frontman was rushed to intensive care late Thursday after a severe headache. The report said doctors discovered bleeding at the base of his brain stem.
Mignano said tests are being conducted and that no further information was available.
The 47-year-old reality TV star had an emergency appendectomy last week after complaining of stomach pains. He said on his website that though the surgery "has taken its toll," doctors expected him to make a full recovery.
Michaels starred on the VH1 dating show "Rock of Love" and is a contestant on Donald Trump's NBC reality show, "The Celebrity Apprentice."
Trump said in a statement Friday that he was "deeply saddened" to hear of Michaels' condition.
"He's a great competitor and champion, and I hope he will be fine," Trump said.

Re: Bret Michaels Hospitalized (Again) with "Warning" Stroke
i didn't watch the rock of love, but he's pretty good on celebrity apprentice.
Yeah, he has been good on Celebrity Apprentice and the show as a whole has been pretty good. I hadn't watched it in a few years but the cast they put together this year dragged me back in.
Rock of Love was GREAT, for what it was. If you're into that kind of thing, which I know lots of people aren't.
Wish him the best of luck. Tough times for Bret, hopefully he can pull through. Is Celebrity Apprentice over? As in, are they finished taping? I just imagined that it was pre-taped weeks in advance, so I wonder if he's still on the show.
