Re: Oil giant BP concedes Gulf spill is bigger than estimated
^^ But that's where it sucks badly. The company will move on. Ohhh no!! Lawsuits. They'll settle for $10 million a death. $110 million. Corporations lose that in a Fiscal Quater. Double it? Big whoop, $220 million. Pocket change barely affecting their red line. They'll lay people off. A few suits & executives who make a million a year & won't struggle, and the a thousand middle management & blue collar people. The VPs & those who sit on the board cutting costs all the time, advising they take the 'cheap route' won't be impacted.
I agree the environment & fishing is wiped out. For this year at least. Do you think wholesalers will risk buying shrimp or seafood from the Gulf? Doubt it. If it's found to be hazardous they'll have to eat the cost the spend on it. They 'll buy from other fisherman from other areas.
Tourism will be impacted as well. Are beaches popular there? I know chutting down Jersey shore would cripple their economy in the summer & ruin a large part of peoples travel plans.

And if the U.S. government were to step in and go, "no don't worry, we're handeling things from now on..."
The country would cry socialism, nationalism, Obama's a dictator...
Amazing how business has brainwashed people who don't have a pot to piss in and a window to throw it out of, that GOVERNMENT IS THE BAD GUY.
Yeah right

There's a lot of irony and hypocrisy in the likes of Bobby Jindal complaining that the government isn't doing enough. I'm reminded of how my state's governor, Rick Perry, recently brought up the potential of seceding from the Union. I also vividly remember Perry accepting federal funding to help with Hurricane Rita a few years ago.
I generally think the government is too big and bureaucracy is a big problem in this country, but Rand Paul's philosophy on government regulation brings up some interesting questions for sure. Should we have a government agency to keep food companies from poisoning us (the FDA)? I don't fully trust the government, but this BP thing should teach people not to have any trust in multinational corporations to do anything other than what makes them a big profit. If it means cutting corners and putting people's lives in danger, they generally side with the almighty dollar instead of people's safety. The recent Toyota brakes issue is another good example of a huge corporation cutting corners and putting people in danger simply so they could make a few more bucks on each car sold.

Re: Oil giant BP concedes Gulf spill is bigger than estimated
Anderson Cooper is hammering the hell out of BP for not saying they had stopped the top kill operation for 16 hours. The douches even sent their PR spin people on TV claiming the operation was going well, even though they knew they had stopped the operation because too much mud was coming out of the leak holes. They had to stop so they could reload with more drilling mud, yet there were BP's douches on TV pretending it was fine and dandy. BP has been dishonest the entire way through.

Have any of you guys checked out the fake BP Twitter page? Its funny as hell...
If Top Kill doesn't work, we're just gonna toss a giant "Get Well Soon" card into the gulf and hope for the best. #bpcares
Finally got my hands on some WD-40... Hard to focus on anything with this squeaky desk chair driving me nuts. #bpcares
Just got the concession call from Exxon Valdez. They were great competitors and remarkably evil about everything. #bpwins!

CNN has a report on the crippled fishing industry and tourism industry. Sounds like BP is screwing over a lot of people, giving them $5,000 checks when they've lost $50,000 of business over the last month.
Re: Oil giant BP concedes Gulf spill is bigger than estimated
Pocket change. They spend $5,000 on weekend lunches for the board members.
This like me or you running someone over with our car, they're limping away, and we cut 'em a check for a $100 bucks to "keep the police out of it".

Exactly. And now there are reports that BP is trying to get all of their lawsuits heard by a single judge in Houston who just so happens to have connections to BP.

@bpTerry just asked a scientist why there are so many crows in the south. Turns out they are seagulls. It was AWKWARD. #bpcares
