Howard mentioned this article about Artie earlier this week and said it didn't sound good, and also didn't sound like something his sister would say.

UPDATE: Stacey Lange's statement about Artie Lange was reportedly made to Penthouse writer Jessica Pilot "about a month ago".
Artie Lange's mental status and most recent whereabouts have finally been updated, and the news about Howard Stern Show's absent "baby gorilla" isn't great.
An interview Artie Lange did with Penthouse Magazine before his suicide attempt was released Wednesday, and included the first family-approved update on where and how well the Howard Stern Show sidekick is recuperating.
The Penthouse article stated:
"Lange has been laying low since the suicide attempt, spending time with his mother Judy and his sister Stacey, who reports that Artie is 'still in bed and not speaking more than five words a day.' Artie's sister canceled his shows in Las Vegas and at Foxwoods, as well as a few club dates for New York that were scheduled for June and July."
This is the first official statement from a family member of Artie Lange since the comedian's suicide attempt by stabbing in January. All other reports on Lange's post-attempt status have come from stories leaked to tabloid outlets and the occasional cryptic on-air statements from Howard Stern Show members who were trying to respect the family's wishes for privacy.
When asked by a Penthouse reporter what he was "passionate" about, Artie Lange stated: "Work. I have nothing else to be excited about. It sucks."
The Penthouse article also quoted Artie Lange as saying: "Getting on The Howard Stern Show is the greatest thing that ever happened to me."
The Penthouse Magazine featuring the Artie Lange interview is on newsstands now.

Shame. I think this guy would feel great of Howard's show ran 24 hours a day, everyday.
He seems to crash as soon as the show's over.
Well, unfortunately it could be looked at in 2 ways. The show put Artie on a pedestal of fame that he never would've accomplished otherwise. He made huge dollars off of/from the show. But, he always felt that he didn't deserve the fame and fortune, that he was just a common man who caught a break.
And at the same time, the show has very demanding hours, especially for an entertainer like Artie who's constantly on the road to make supplemental income. Having to show up for 6am Monday-Thursday isn't the easiest thing to do for someone like Artie. Some people, namely Norm MacDonald and Bob Levy, have claimed that the show contributed to Artie's downfall. I'm not sure I agree with it, but their claim is the schedule was tough for him and it got to a point where they should've put forced him into rehab.

Maybe. Something tells me if Artie had it with movies and just did that, he'd be doing drugs during his downtime because he's so bored.
I think problem with Artie has to do with his schedule... the fact he wants to work ALL THE TIME in order to survive personally. His job is his life, and when the job is over, he has no life. He lives to work.
Forcing rehab on a guy like Artie who's been there and done that does nothing. It might be cliche, but the guy ain't gonna get clean until he wants to get clean. But right now drugs are the least of Artie's problems. His mental instability is what should be focused on. Getting clean isn't gonna make him less crazy.

Potential big news. Howard mentioned yesterday that Gary had recently talked to Artie on the phone and that he was doing better and wanted to come into the studio and tell his side of the story. Howard and Robin wondered aloud if that was a good idea for the sake of Artie's health. I'd be surprised if Howard bypassed the potential great radio event that would be though. Regardless, it sounds as if Artie is doing better, which is good news.
Also, Howard has been quite outspoken lately about his future, saying he doesn't expect to be back at Sirius after this year. He says he WILL continue on with the show though, somewhere. He's got his finger on the pulse and has mentioned the internet as a possibility. I'd love for him to re-sign at Sirius since I have all the equipment and it's all paid off but I think he wants to work less hours and days a week and I doubt Sirius would want to retain him at his current salary. And I don't think Howard is about to take a pay cut at this stage in his life.

I think Howard's just done. Even if he leaves, I doubt he'd come back full time. Probably just for one-off's here and there, that he could put on the internet.
I don't blame the guy. All these years of great radio, the man is a legend, revolutionized the business... he came, he saw, he conquered, he went home with his big pile of money...
Artie's batshit. I don't mind hearing his side of the story, but he's clinical. I think it's pretty obvious at this point. No offense, love the guy.

Well, Howard sure doesn't sound like he's done. He's made it clear that he wants to go forward with the show, SOMEWHERE. He's seemingly charged up for yet another new conquest. He had been talking about hanging it up for awhile but he seems to be re-energized now. He LOVES doing the show and getting his opinions out there, so I don't think he's done yet. He's even said that where he goes, he'll most likely sign a 5 year deal.
Artie obviously had some major problems and is working through them right now. I don't know if he'll ever overcome all his demons though, and it's tough to tell because he kept it hidden quite well over the years. I just thought he was a overachieving blue collar guy/junkie. Who knew his pain ran that deep? Even with all the warning signs.

Exactly. Artie is loaded with issues. It's one thing for your demon to be mental instability, it's another thing to take that extreme instability and couple it with
Jan-Michael Vincent alcoholism and a Layne Staley love of heroin and other rx painkillers.
That's not even counting the eating issue. That's the least of his problems.
I feel horrible for a guy like Artie, he's so likable on a good day, and skid fuckin' row on a bad guy, and the guy has had tons of help over the years, supposedly hit rock bottom about 800 times, and sadly even after the horrific botched suicide attempt, he still seems like he hasn't found rock bottom yet.
I hope to hell the guy gets better, but I really think he's not gonna stop until he's dead.

Yeah I see what you're saying. This was his second suicide attempt. People like that don't often get over the hump and back to 100% physical and mental health. He's always talked about dying young as it is, so he almost expects it. Maybe and hopefully this latest botched suicide will make him view things differently, but the odds certainly seem to be stacked against him.

Holy crap, this picture is so ridiculous it looks fake. Little Lupe was on the show again today and she was awesome as usual. She was supposed to ride the sybian with the inventor of the sybian at the controls, but the 80 year old guy fell off a horse and broke his back. Lupe suspects foul play. Well, she actually thinks he's lying about falling off the horse and just didn't want to work with her. Anyway, check out this picture. Looks like world's largest man/smallest woman exhibit.
