Re: Reading, United Kingdom - August 27, 2010 (Reading Festival)
It's nothing but bullshit. how some of you think this is awesome is beyond me. Seriously his badass image is so scripted. This is so transparent. Ooooohhhh DJ throws his guitar. I wonder how many times he practiced iit backstage. Gimme a break. This is "Gn'R" trying to be Gn'R on purpose. It's Embarassing It's not spontanious. Axl's a dick. Yet some of you will think and have already said "Whoa Axl is a bad mother fucker. oooohhh he's so cool" he's an idiot. END OF STORY!
Re: Reading, United Kingdom - August 27, 2010 (Reading Festival)
just got back from the show at reading festival. they came onstage 50mins late at 10:20. i was glad they had come on stage at all as i was a bit concerned as alot of the crowd wernt really gnr fans and were booing and chanting things like 'we want slash'. idiots. Anyway they played some good songs, including an instumental cover of the james bond theme which was cool, and a bit of pink floyd later too. the crowd loved the classics but didnt respond to the new songs. november rain probably went down the best and it even rained a bit which was cool. axl said at one point he could smell cannabis in the crowd. they were near the end of nightrain at midnight when axl looked off stage at someone and said over the mic "if thats the way you want to play it, fine" & then apolagised to the crowd and threw the mic 10feet in the air and stormed off stage. the band played on till the end of the song without any vocals for the final bit. i saw axl say something to this woman at the side of the stage, he looked really pissed off. axl tried to talk to the crowd but they wouldnt turn on his mic, he looked very pissed off, would have been great to hear what he was saying. the band tried to play paradice city with drums and accoustic guitar & the crowd chanted the chorus. axl found a megaphone and said "after this we're not playing leeds". I dont blame him, sure they were late onstage but its BS that this festival shuts at midnight. after the band had sat together onstage for a bit and the crowd had chanted PC for a bit then the lights slowly went off and that was the end. i was a little dissapointed as id enjoyed the show until the end.

People that call for slash at a gig are really moronic. I say that as a massive slash fan who would love to see him work with Axl again - but yelling out abuse at a gig is not in anyway going to encourage that to happen - and is rude to the current members who do a damn fine job. It's not like it's a surprise that slash aint there.
I can see both sides of this. From the band's POV I can't see much worse than being on stage rocking out, entertaining thousands and having a blast - and someone cuts the power and shuts it all down before your big finish.
Then again, from the promoter's POV, they are probably not trying to be jerks, but these shows are subject to government rules and that type of thing, and going overtime in some situations will cause them to go broke or not be allowed to run the feastival again. they might also want Axl to keep playing, but it's not worth their entire business to them.
All in all it sounds like it was a good show until the time limit reared it's ugly head, let's hope the band can get past the frustration of this and enjoys the next show more.

He tweeted he was backstage well before they were to take the stage. He then goes on stage 50 minutes late and you can't blame HIM? Seriously WTF? What world do some of you live in? he went on stage late ON PURPOSE knowing full wel this could happen then he rants about what Bullshit it is. Incredible that some of you eat this up.

^ To be fair, we don't know for sure why he came on late, could have been some kind of other problem, but I'll grant the history of the band suggests it was GNR's delay.
Re: Reading, United Kingdom - August 27, 2010 (Reading Festival)
I dont know why they didnt come on stage on time. However i agree that if axl thought he could break the rules on purpose thats unfair on the fans as they are the ones that missed out. The important point is: why do we have a festival that has to finish at midnight? I really disagree with this. if it is due to council rules or whatever then this is what i disagree with. It is 3 nights out of a whole year. doesnt make sence to me. If we didnt have the curfew at 12 and gnr had finished their set id have been completely happy with the show. I feel bad for the fans at leeds if axl follows through with his statement that he is not going to play leeds. We'll have to wait and see...

What other headliners couldn't finish their set other than GNR?........... Exactly, again, GNR is the ONLY band in the world this shit happens to. Just imagine if this was a reunion show and Slash, Duff, Izzy, Matt/Steven are on stage ready to go and Axl pulls this? Wouldn't surprise me if Myles or someone jumped on stage and started without Axl, surely they wouldn't put up with this anymore either. The fans, and Axl's band (Ron, Richard, Chris, Dizzy, Tommy, DJ) are victims.. Axl doesn't deserve the kick ass band he has, but the economy keeps them stuck with Axl, cause he is their meal ticket right now. Its like now he is taking advantage of the situation. I don't care how "nice" and "sweet" he is behind the scenes. In the big time, in the spotlight (on stage) he is being an ass.
Re: Reading, United Kingdom - August 27, 2010 (Reading Festival)
If Axl actually said "we're not playing Leeds after this", then i'm of the FULL belief that the Tweet was 100% authentic, and one of his Axlisms.
As for this ordeal, only with Axl Rose. What can I say. Is it a rock n' roll moment, yeah, but he could've went on ON TIME and completely avoided it and gave the audience a full show. But then again, the audience can now honestly say they'll NEVER forget this particular GN'R show.
Re: Reading, United Kingdom - August 27, 2010 (Reading Festival)
too funny...again...could you imagine working under these conditions... Captain Ahab,
"Speak not to me of blasphemy, man; I'd strike the sun if it insulted me. Look ye, Starbuck, all visible objects are but as pasteboard masks. Some inscrutable yet reasoning thing puts forth the molding of their features. The white whale tasks me; he heaps me. Yet he is but a mask. 'Tis the thing behind the mask I chiefly hate; the malignant thing that has plagued mankind since time began; the thing that maws and mutilates our race, not killing us outright but letting us live on, with half a heart and half a lung."

It's one of the paradoxs of life, on one hand there's always going to be this kind of problem following GNR, on the other, Axl is a one-in-a-generation peformer.
It's a personal choice in the end for people.
