There's only one camp Neemo. Axl broke curfew so they cut his set short. End of Story. It's on nobody else but Axl. Late start, long set who cares. He broke the curfew nobody else. If people are in the camp that thinks the promoters are somewhat at fault then I think those people have lost their grasp on reality.
I know, it's unreal.

The guy isn't 23 anymore. At some point, he should really consider the option of growing up. All the people that think this is so badass must like the lyrics to GITR still too, because both are equally mature.
Axl knew what was expected. He was told ahead of time. He wasn't threatened, he was simply told the reality of the situation. He chose to go on late - he can't pretend to be all heroic when the promoter does exactly what they said they were going to do. Heroic would have been showing up and starting on time. Heroic would have been if you're there on time and the setup isn't ready doing a short acoustic set while they finish setting up. Being mad at a promoter that followed up on what they should have done and punishing only the fans in the process isn't heroic, it's cowardly.

No, a 50 year old former rebel that doesn't realize he doesn't have the pull that he used to is stupid. The reality of the situation was quite reasonable. People that live in the area have the right to peace and quiet late at night.

You do realize that this was held in a city. And only a very, very, very, very infinitesimally small portion of the population of this city attended this festival.
It's called living in a society. Rock n Roll promoters don't make the rules for a city. Noise ordinances and curfews are in place for a reason, and if they reasons aren't good enough, the government can change them. If you can't understand that, I'm sorry, there's no hope.
Axl didn't pull this shit to strike a blow at freedom against the tyranny of noise ordinances -- he did this because he was probably trying to bang a 40 year old, leathery skinned british groupie.
Personally, I think the whole thing is staged. We'll see what happens at Leeds. If they magically decide to go on, you'll know this was a PR stunt.

people shouldn't hold a rock n roll show if they don't want noise at night time. reject the license tell the organisers to find another venue or another act that will play by the rules. but don't expect people who want to play later to play @ a ridiculously early time on a Friday night.

You do realize that this was held in a city. And only a very, very, very, very infinitesimally small portion of the population of this city attended this festival.

No, I haven't. Correct me if I'm wrong. What's the local population vs. the attendance of the festival? And how many come from surrounding areas/other parts of the country/other countries?

Be careful what you wish for...this is exactly what the promoters are trying to stop from happening. they learned lesson #1 the hard way - don't invite an immature act that isn't interested in playing by anybody's rules.
Unfortunately for the redheaded crybaby, more and more promoters/venues/managers/record companies/fans are figuring this out.
