Re: The 2010-11 NFL Season Thread
Bills O-line is terrible but it should improve this year from last, some promising young guys there that just need a little more time (Eric Wood in particular). To most in Buffalo Spiller's selection in the draft signaled that Lynch's time here is done, so I'd expect Marshawn to see fewer touches than CJ, although Jackson will play as much as possible. Jackson was the best Bill last year so he'll get a lot of opportunities but he'll probably get a fair amount of wildcat plays with Spiller alongside him.
And yeah, Lee Evans is one of the most talented WRs I've ever seen, but the Bills have been too bad to get him the touches he should have. He's up there with Reed and Moulds for the best receivers in team history, even in an era where the offense has been consistently bad and the coaching staff has turned over every few years.
EDIT: I said Lynch was suspended, he's not. Total brain fart there. My apologies.
Re: The 2010-11 NFL Season Thread
Lynch is suspended again? I didn't know this.
I think the Bills O-Line will be better than last year, but the main thing is I think they have an offense that finally best suits Trent Edwards and allows him time to throw downfield and stay upright.
I'm just really not confident in my Phins. Don't believe in Chad Henne. And tbh, I don't really know where Bill Parcells gets the credit for being a drafting genius people give him credit for. I haven't liked any of his drafts for the exception of Jake Long (which was a no brainer). The last roster cut has been most of his high level draft picks the last couple years. Ridiculous.
Re: The 2010-11 NFL Season Thread
^^ Wasn't Chad Henne a 2nd or 3rd round pick? Hard to argue that one. Good Big 10 QB's typically go there (Ohio State, Michigan, Drew Brees etc).
I'm having some second guesses, I think NE might implode this year after reading Moss is now unhappy or something. Bonehead. His career will likely go downhill soon, he's getting up there in age. Still a good player, but what is he now 33 or 34. Enjoy it while you can, it'll end fast.
Re: The 2010-11 NFL Season Thread
Yeah Randy feels "unwanted". Going through his normal routine when he comes to the end of a contract. I just hope he doesn't quit on the team on the field. He's 33, but still one of the top WR's in the game and I think he'll stay at that level through his next contract. It sounds like Brady may have a new deal by Sunday. I'm sure he'd like to keep Randy around for a few more years. New England may implode, or just not be that good, but I don't think it'll have much to do with Randy. Honestly their defense could be scary bad this year. The only saving grace is, there aren't that many great defenses in the NFL it seems. It's a pass happy league with rules geared toward the offense.
I liked what I saw from Henne at the end of last year. He showed great progress. I hope that continues, since I just picked him up as a backup QB in fantasy. He's got a more talented offense around him this year so that should help. Their defense is usually good too, so I think the Dolphins will be solid.
Re: The 2010-11 NFL Season Thread
I'd love to see another 86 Bears or 00 Ravens defense rain a shit storm on the league. Never really cared about the Ravens that much but I loved watching that defense. An opposing team could hold that Ravens offense to 3 points and the Ravens would still win. Anyone who thought that team wasn't winning the SB was a few sandwiches and a quart of tater salad short of a picnic.
I skipped preseason this year. My interest is waning.

I don't know if that could happen in the modern day NFL though. The rules are just so catered to the offenses, it'd be hard for a defense to dominate and win on their own. Look at the Jets last year. They had the number one defense in the league, but were handed a spot in the playoffs and fell one game short of the Super Bowl losing to a much better offensive squad (Colts). They beat the Chargers, who always seem to lose games they should win in the playoffs, and the Bengals, who just weren't that good, especially on offense. The 3 best teams last year, Colts, Saints, Vikings had arguably the 3 best offenses in the league. That's no mistake. Even when the Giants made their improbable Super Bowl run in 2007, the defense just got on a roll in the playoffs that year. They didn't play like that all season long, and their offense wasn't half bad either.
Re: The 2010-11 NFL Season Thread
saints vs. vikes.
saints running game looks great. vikes d looks better than ever.
favre's absence from training camp, along with coache's crazy decision to stop running the ball (which was working very well) in the second half cost the vikings the game. vikes proved for a second time they are the better team, even in defeat.
Re: The 2010-11 NFL Season Thread
Yeah, the Vikings passing game left a lot to be desired. Shiancoe was great in the first half, but the Saints made the necessary adjustments to neutralize him in the second half. Nobody else really stepped up in the passing game for them. The Saints started off hitting the ground running and it looked like the Vikes could be in trouble. But both teams settled in. Never would've expected a 14-9 game between those two teams. The Saints offensive line just wore down the Vikings defense in the second half.
This just in.

Re: The 2010-11 NFL Season Thread
The thing I'd keep an eye on in the future is the saints kicking game. Nothing torpedoes a super bowl team or ran faster than a shitty kicker.
Can you blame Childress for not running the ball or is that on Favre? The last 2 times they got the ball I don't think they ran it once.
Re: The 2010-11 NFL Season Thread
That was kind of odd. It was almost like they out thought themselves. They ran the ball so well in the first half. Maybe they figured the Saints would aim to stop the run game in the second half, so they adjusted. In the end, it didn't look like a very smart move. They need to focus on running the ball. Especially early on in the season here when Brett doesn't have his guy to throw too. Though he does seem to have a pretty good chemistry with Shiancoe.
