Re: Alice's take on Axl
I hear you Neemo, will we ever hear a song they worked on together?
Re: Alice's take on Axl
They are there to imitate something which they are not.
And when they did not and Buckethead dressed in a yellow rain coat and Robin Finck dressed like some kind of goth alien, they got shit because they "looked like freaks".
Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
And I personally dug Finck's 2002 look because it was his image alone.
I heard Ashba's stuff, he can play, but he's nothing more than one of the 1 million guitarists in LA. Even mentioning his name with Slash's in the same sentence would be ridiculous.
So why are they nobodies and Ashba writing with Nikki Sixx and Axl Rose? What you are saying is that you actually claim to know Ashba's skills better than two of the most legendary rockers in the world.
And I am mentioning Ashbas name with Slash, because Slash haven' done anything of interest since 1993 in my honest opinion, and DJ has. There I've mentioned them in the same sentence because that's my taste and opinion.
While Ashba prolly won't ever write a new Jungle or SCOM or PC, he and Sixx wipes the floor with Slash 1993-2010 on "Saint of Los Angeles". Yet another personal opinion there.

Re: Alice's take on Axl
Nikki Sixx? Please drop that, you are acting like he is fucking Mick Jagger. "Saint of Los Angeles" sounds cool, not because of Ashba, but because of Tommy's Drum's and Vince's voice. I like the song. I guess Ashba gets some credit for helping write a kick ass tune. "Life is Beautiful" is good too...
Re: Alice's take on Axl
you guys claiming that its ridiculous are the only ones putting them in the same sentence as each other ...
thats all i'm sayin
yeah DJ isnt Slash...i know that, DJ is DJ and i'm diggin what he brings to the band, i just dont feel the need to compare current guitarists with previous ones anymore, i think DJ, Ron and Rich are all playing really well together right now...they put on a good show and appear to have great chemestry together
Well said, it seems some comments have struck some people the wrong way. As far as I can tell, ALL DCK said was that he thought DJ's output was better than Slash's in RECENT years. I don't think he ever said anything close to DJ being a better guitar player than Slash. I don't see the reason why some are making that leap. Let's not be so sensitive. We know what Slash is and what he's accomplished. Nobody is trying to take that away from him, and they can't do it even if they tried. The very fact you feel the need to point out he's a better guitarist than DJ is ridiculous in its own right, and at the same time saying DJ is just another guitar player and there's nothing special about him is a bit overdramatic to me. The guy has been in the business for awhile now and he's worked with some legendary performers. He must be doing something right.
Re: Alice's take on Axl
I just love how Slash hasn't done shit when Contraband blew Chinese Democracy out of the water not only on sales but hit singles and is an amazing rock album.
Yeah that Slash can't write shit anymore.
Hell Back From Cali got higher than Better on the charts.
Re: Alice's take on Axl
Here's a problem I have with radio and citing charts. Since D brought it up, I haven't once heard that Slash song on the radio. Nor did I hear Better. CD I heard a ton.
The rock radio charts reflect a very small number of stations, stations that fit a certain format, etc. that the majority of the general public never touch, let alone have a preset for.
Making it on the rock charts really isn't anything to crow about. Apparently, AIC had two big hits off their CD, which I own. I've never heard them on the radio. Not once.
So, color me ambivalent.

Actually it's more like 3 big hits now. Check My Brain, Your Decision and Lesson Learned all did well on the chart. I've heard each one of those on the radio. I've also heard one of Slash's songs once, and that was it.
The rock radio charts are bogus in that way.
