I liked it. He didn't try to look like anyone, just himself. You got balls when you join GNR and looks like a gothic alien. Respect.

I would've respected Robin more if he had stuck with the goth.. when he switched the classic rock/Frusciante look, made him seem like a poser.

I think Robin is one of those who likes to change stuff around. I doubt he did it for GNR. He did it for himself. He's that kind of guy. He was no poser at all, he just wanted a beard and some long hair and there's nothing wrong with it at all.

Or, Axl told him to look like that, and then took a long long break to give him time to get that look 16

hey, you never know!

I never saw Robin as a poser, I thought he was quite an individual and had his own look regardless.  Even when he lost the goth look he was still quite unique with his look. I mean bloody hell he used to wear a skirt, so I would hardly say he was posing.

I think people go a little over the top with the personal taste thing just so people can't call them out and say they are wrong.

hey my personal taste, I'll take Motley Crue greatest hits over Led Zeppelin or The Beatles but I'd never sit here and say MC are a better band cause objectively i can listen and realize they aren't better, i just prefer it.

I'd never go into a room and debate Motley as being better just cause my "taste" likes them more.

Seems anytime axl gets a new guitar player.. the whole "Taste" thing comes into play. Finck now DJ.

D, it seems like you're arguing just for the sake of arguing.  You were one of the biggest DJ supporters when he came on board, saying how good a writer he was citing SixxAM and Motley Crue.  Now all of a sudden, he's a Slash wannabe and SixxAM and MC were nothing special.  What exactly happened to turn you off to DJ?  I have a feeling you just want to stick up for Slash, but there's no need to tear down DJ in the process.

And as for taste.  As much as I enjoyed Contraband, Libertad, AND Slash.  We're not talking about The White Album here.  It is entirely possible for someone to enjoy The Heroin Diaries or Saints of Los Angeles as much if not more than those 3 albums.  And no sales numbers, awards, or critical acclaim can change that.
