Some notes on Moss. This deal was made out of necessity, not to improve the talent on the team. Randy made some comments in the off season at a charity softball event about wanting a new contract. Then he did more of the same at a pre season event thrown by Bob Kraft. Then he took 20 minutes after their week one win to talk about feeling unwanted. After that, Belichick spoke with him and told him to keep his mouth shut and to not speak publically about it. So he did, initially. Then he brought it up again.
At halftime of the Monday night game against the Dolphins Randy had a blowup with QB's coach/unofficial Offensive Coordinator Bill O'brien. Then Belichick met with Randy yesterday and they had a heated excange. At that point, they decided enough was enough.
Randy has a history of quitting on his team when he's in the final year of his contract. He did it with the Vikings and the Raiders. The Patriots feared he'd do the same to them, so they got what they could for him.
End of story. Obviously they're not as good without Randy, but they feared he could sabotage the team. Their defense is still too shaky to make them a legit contender, with or without Moss. That could change in time. But I wouldn't expect a repeat of Monday night to be the norm.

I'll still take Trent Edwards because we actually have a line that could protect him, which he hasn't had in the last 2 of his 3 seasons as a starter. You can't do much when you're lying on your back or running for your life. He's not a running QB.
The Moss/Favre connection is going to be spectacular. Either it will be a huge success or a huge disaster. Either way it'll be great entertainment.

It's a very low risk move for the Vikings. And taking my Patriot fandom out of the equation, this deal provides great entertainment for the NFL. Aside from the Favre/Moss connection, his first game with the Vikings is on Monday night against the Jets. Revis is due to return an he's spouting off again about Moss quitting the last time they met. Then Randy returns to Gillette Stadium on Halloween, and I'll be there to witness it firsthand. Should be a crazy scene. Lots of must see action coming up for football fans.

Oh that should be cool to see. I just thought it was a lopsided trade, at least in the present tense. My roommate is a diehard Pats guy, and it was all he could talk about this afternoon.
The Pats might be down a migraine, but on a football level all they did was hurt themselves, and the Vikings improved, in an on-going season. This is almost like a baseball move at the July 31st trade deadline, something you rarely see in football. This is like if the Red Sox traded Manny in mid-2007 in a World Series-caliber, and was, year. All they do is lose a bat. They're just hurting themselves.
I could see the fear the Pats had about Moss doggin' it over the contract, but all I could imagine is that Belicheck was about to bury a machete in the fucker's back. Seems like a drastic move - still.

Obviously it got to a point where they felt they had to rid themselves of Moss because they surely aren't as talented without him. But if he was becoming that much of a distraction and has a history of quitting on his teams when his contract status is up in the air, that could create an untenable situation. One they weren't willing to deal with.
They're still a good team with plenty of weapons on offense. Over the past couple of years Brady often became too reliant on Moss and would try to force the ball to him in ill advised spots. He's more effective when he spreads the ball around. They're just going to have to change their offense around. They were actually in the process anyway, thus Moss only having 9 catches on the year. The only time Brady tried to force it to Moss this season was in the second half of the Jets game, and you know how well that worked out.
And this team was/is only going as far as their defense allows them, with or without Randy. If they can continue to improve and make big plays when they need to, then they have a shot. If they play like they did against the Bills, not so much. They didn't look like a Super Bowl team in the least that day and Moss had 2 TD's in that game. It's not about one guy in football.
And the Manny argument is valid and quite similar. And the Sox DID trade Manny during the season when they had World Series aspirations. They lost in game 7 of the ALCS to the Rays. Again, talent wise they weren't a better team with Jason Bay, but when you've got such a selfish player threatening to derail what you're trying to accomplish, it's time to cut ties.

Yeah it reached a point where Manny wasn't even running hits out anymore. He'd just jog to 2nd when he had a chance at extra bases.
And as for the Pats, you're right on that D. If the Dolphins had even attempted to show up on Monday night, it would've been an even higher score. Pats got lucky that the Miami-Dade High School special teams had Dolphin uni's on.

Both Bill Belichick and Randy Moss took the high road in their respective press conferences today, praising the other. Saying it was nothing personal, they have great respect for each other, and it was "business". That would seem to point to this deal being pushed heavily by owner Bob Kraft. After all, it's his "business" and he doesn't care for players speaking out about being disrespected and unappreciated by the Patriots. Apparently it got to a point where it was just time to cut ties.
Patriots have been busy looking at available options at WR, including Vincent Jackson and former Patriot Deion Branch. I'd say Jackson is highly unlikely. Branch could be a possibility if he could be had cheaply. He has familiarity playing with Brady. Lord knows he has been injury plagued, basically his entire career, so who knows exactly how much he has left.

That chick Brett Favre supposedly sent pictures of his shlong to looks pretty damn similar to his wife. Wouldn't that be like cheating on your wife with your wife? Maybe a younger, hotter version of your wife.
I could buy everything about that story except the myspace thing. Why would he do that in a public forum, saying he was "the new guy on the team (Jets) and he was the guy with grey hair, but that's all he could say?" That makes no sense. On top of it, he supposedly used a name after a David Bowie character? Heh? If it was Bocephus I'd believe it.
