Re: Duff Joining GNR (Oct 14, 2010) was awesome but dumb
maybe my reading comprehension has went to shit over the years, but where did Duff say anything about feeling awkward etc??
its implied here...
There were a couple of guys hanging out. There was a lot of, sort of... Like what I was saying, you go through a lot of stuff in business and there's some fractures and demonizing of each other and I think, if nothing else, a couple of old friends maybe got over some of those hurdles and had a nice talk. And I don't want to do anything here to cheapen that by saying anything to you guys, but we had a nice dinner the day after the show, and that was it
Re: Duff Joining GNR (Oct 14, 2010) was awesome but dumb
Axl pretty much made it clear that he was misquoted that he said he "loved Slash" as in past tense. He talked about having his feelings hurt by Izzy when he played with him in 2006 where Izzy wanted money for it, and reitereated how unreliable he is. He's actually been very consistent. And I haven't heard him retract anything he's said about Duff and Izzy at any point. I don't know how he was praising Slash 4 years ago...
He hasn't been consistent at all. Of course he never retracted anything which is part of his inconsistencies. he changes his stance every few years when he resurfaces. I've already listed several examples and not gonna bother digging for more as those examples get the point across.
Didn't praise Slash four years ago?
I always wanted everyone to know how great he was.
You call that bashing? If so, I cant even imagine what you think praising is. He also praised him in 99 and in 2002 while also speaking negatively towards him. Not gonna bother digging for the quotes. You're old enough to remember it.
When it comes to Axl, not a good idea to hang on to his word like its gospel because that gospel changes the very next year.
Slash had no interest in doing another AFD
Slash wanted to do another AFD but Axl wanted to go in a different direction
Which of those is gospel? Axl made both statements 10 years ago.
Axl doesn't talk much. And when he did he said he 'd play with Duff again with Duff on guitar. That's what happened. That's not selective memory. He didn't have to say it over and over again for it to mean, or mean something else, or whatever it's supposed to mean.
Of course he doesn't talk much which is why his inconsistencies stand out so much. You act like he hadn't mentioned Duff in 20 years, mentions him, and then voila!, he's onstage. You're a long time fan and know that just isn't the case.
And I never said anything close that he was begging to come back. I said he's probably at the point in his life now where he'd be willing to do whatever Axl wanted to share the stage with him again. Bu do I think he really wants to play with Axl in GNR again? Absolutely and I think he'd drop all the baggage and ego to do it. I think he wants to do it more than any other ex member.
I think he would consider doing it as well but he needs the reunion the least out of all the ex members. You cant ask for more success than he has had. That success continues and will continue, GNR or no GNR.
That's some spin.
No shit. Now that Duff has performed with Axl, all the previous rants and interviews no longer exist and Axl has always considered him a saint.
I'd love to see Slash onstage with Axl just to see the spin machine in motion. Would probably be better than the performance itself.
Duff is such a cool cat. Good interview. It really does make me wonder if there's a chance Slash and Axl could talk once they get away from outside sources.
Of course they would. Get the housekeepers and janitors out of the way, it wouldn't take long for some sort of communication to occur. Doesn't even need to lead to a reunion. Just a burying of the hatchet privately. If a collaboration happened, wouldn't even need to be under the GNR brand. Could be a Slash solo album, song with VR, or an Outpatience type of situation.
That response from Duff regarding the show and the lead up to it is pure class. Couldn't have possibly done that any better.
Re: Duff Joining GNR (Oct 14, 2010) was awesome but dumb
Don't forget James, in addition to those AFD comments, Axl made ANOTHER AFD comment stating how Axl himself wanted to go back and do another AFD, but it was Slash that held him back.
Don't get me wrong, Slash's story has changed time and again too, so has Izzy's, the only one who's stayed in the ballpark has been Duff. Axl, Slash, Izzy, Gilby, Steven & Matt have all made TONS of conflicting comments in the past. I think they're all liars.

I always wanted everyone to know how great he was.
Well, you're gonna have to dig it up, because I have no idea what you're talking about. Here's the quote:
"As for a reunion with his former Gn’R mates, that seems unlikely. "I haven’t spoken to Slash in ten years," Rose says. "I love the guy, I always wanted everyone to know how great he was, but.... I was just talking to Izzy the other day though.""
That's it. That's the quote. That's the entire quote in that incomplete blurb.
I remember back in the 1999 interview with Loader where he basically said the same thing, and that he was concerned about Slash's status, but Slash didn't care, like playing with Michael Jackson and shit. That was from the interview, not some blurb quote at a party when we didn't hear anything else he said, which he said was misquoted. If you want to jump on that as proof that he's inconsistant, fine. Axl did respond to this quote and corrected it and elaborated on it. You don't want to believe him, fine. Somehow that doesn't count... But okay.
You call that bashing? If so, I cant even imagine what you think praising is. He also praised him in 99 and in 2002 while also speaking negatively towards him. Not gonna bother digging for the quotes. You're old enough to remember it.
Never said he was bashing Slash there... Dont know where you came up with that. Just pointing out those quotes of him praising Slash and speaking negative (on different issues) were no different than what he's done all along, going back to the Loader interview.
When it comes to Axl, not a good idea to hang on to his word like its gospel because that gospel changes the very next year.

I'm not taking everything he says as gospel. We're talking about their context...
I remember distinctly that he said he liked some of the stuff Slash was doing on the recordings after UYI (compared it to Aerosmith if I remember right), but Slash would bury it when Axl got interested in it. He's said that several times. Matter of fact, the last time he talked about it he pointed out that Fall To Pieces was one of the songs.
I think I remember him saying something about wanting to make an album like AFD again in 93, then again sometime afterward (which was talked about in past tense, I think the Loader interveiw). Context is pretty important here.
Axl doesn't talk much. And when he did he said he 'd play with Duff again with Duff on guitar. That's what happened. That's not selective memory. He didn't have to say it over and over again for it to mean, or mean something else, or whatever it's supposed to mean.

What are you talking about, James? I was responding to someone elses post that was making it out like this Duff performance was this huge shock and there was something wrong with you if you didn't see this as a sign of a reunion. I was posting that it wasn't a big shock Duff was on stage with them, because Axl had said he was open to playing with Duff not too long ago, and on guitar on top of it. No idea what you're talking about there.
That's some spin.

Again, what's the spin? My posts are the ones that are being quoted and then misinterepreted for some odd reason, and then being answered with assanine statements that were not even close to what I was saying. Never, ever, have I made Axl out to be a saint. I'm not even saying he hasn't contradicted himself. I'm just asking to see them and when they were made.

Re: Duff Joining GNR (Oct 14, 2010) was awesome but dumb
I'm shocked that there are still people who debate that Axl's stories are changing time to time. Of course, he's the one who never lies, but it implies that he's suffering of Alzheimer.
Re: Duff Joining GNR (Oct 14, 2010) was awesome but dumb
I don't know that any of them actually lie, at least not intentionally. I know I don't remember everything that happened in the past exactly the way it happened, and when high emotions are involved, it clouds the picture even more. Add to that people in your ear all the time telling you things and it becomes pretty easy to not have a clue what really happened and having destinct memories of things that never really happened the way you remember them. I see lying as purposely not telling the truth. I think they all say things the way they see them at the time they are asked with occasional efforts to not say anything too offensive about the other person.

^ Toally agree with that post.
Re: Duff Joining GNR (Oct 14, 2010) was awesome but dumb
I`m on vacation and don`t have enough time on a computer to read all of this but the fact people are comparing the significance of Izzy`s on stage performance with Gn`R to Duff's on stage performance as being comparable is FUCKING LAUGHABLE. You all know better and Duff back on stage with Axl is much more significant. END OF STORY. Mind blowing that some of you.... most of you think otherwise. If I have to explain it then you just don`t get it and never will.
