Facebook isn´t the problem end of story. It´s the individual and their lack of intelligence and grasp on reality. It`d be like argueing that because there are alcoholics in this world we should get rid of alcohol. Or since video games are violent we should ditch those, especially the online gameing.  This story is disgusting but facebook has and had NOTHING to do with it. the woman was a straight up moron that´s all. Stone her to death like others have said. That`s your solution, not getting rid of or blaming facebook for mankinds downfall.  While your´re at it you might as well include online fan forums as a problem. It`s all the same shit, people just need to be smarter and stop acting like fucking idiots.

By the way I use facebook all the time and it´s in no way for narcassistic purposes. I use it to keep in touch and before anyone says use a phone or meet in person I do that as well. Facebook is just another avenue for it.

Agree 100% + 1

My wife played farmville for a few weeks wen it came out on her computer in our room.It is in no way a demanding game. We both played World of Warcraft for almost 2 years and ran a raiding guild ( verrrry demanding game) Our 2 kids they are 3 and 6 come in all the time if we are not in the living room or with them to talk to us, show us stuff, all kinds of things to get our attention. We talk to them normally. Gave attention wen they needed it. and often times she turned off facebook or we had someone replace us in whatever raid and went to spend time with our kids.

Point is games/media/hobbies/life does not make you kill anyone.

Its a shame whoever broke this story already had a headline. There was no need to mention facebook and shame on the police for even noticing or mentioning it in such a sad situation.

I believe in an eye for an eye. Shake that bitch to death!

Amen!

Do you guys remember the teenager(s) that died. I think the parents blamed Ozzy and his song Suicide Solution and the lawyer claimed that if you played the record backwords on that song you heard get the knife..do it do it..my memory is a little fuzzy but that story has always stuck with me.  its the same type of thing.

I'd hoped this social bullshit fad would have died out by now.  Seems not.

It'll die out but a different social bullshit fad will take its place.

Couple years from now, no one will give two shits about Facebook and Twitter. Someone will say, "No way. They're thriving. The whole world uses it. I get to stay in contact with all my friends. It's here to stay". BULLSHIT. People said the same thing about Myspace and those who were saying that were the first people to abandon it.

That story Russ posted is cool and I had a similar thing happen with a childhood friend on Myspace back in 2006. However, that's not really what these sites stand for. As previously mentioned, it's all about ads, spam, and being the big fad of the moment. The moment you stop being the big fad, the ad revenue dries up and the site dies.

The community doesn't matter and in reality is just the byproduct. What matters is you logging in and looking at ads, and they even let you play addicting games so you'll look at ads longer. How nice of them!

Like Mick, I hate these sites. Myspace was tolerable and I used it off and on for a couple years. I did join Facebook but have a dead account as I cant stand its layout. Actually logged in for the first time in a couple years the other night and its even more vomit inducing than it was then. Have a Twitter account but rarely use it.

Also agree with Axlin08 about those sites being borderline insane asylums. However, that encompasses the entire internet. What makes these sites stand out more is how the fad(s) took over the world. Forums are pet rocks and bell bottoms at this point. The majority of net users log into youtube and the above sites(and of course porn) to get their "fix". Forums used to be the rage years ago. Now they're a fading memory. Instead of Joe and Jill Blow writing several paragraphs about their favorite band or whatever on forums, they go to Facebook or Twitter and say, " I lyk GNR".

Ironically, the social networking sites are making people less social and the internet is devolving.

Don't worry about the eventual demise of Facebook and Twitter. As long as you're willing to look at ads while sending a message to the universe that you ate a Big Mac for a midnight snack, there will be many successors to them.

I think something will replace facebook just as it replaced myspace but I don't think social networking as a concept will die unless it's replaced with something even better. It's basicly replaced email now for many people.
