Agree it wouldn't make any sense to talk to your hearing aid.  BUT, people do crazy things.  People talk/sing to themselves all the time.  And "extras" do crazy things all the time on movie sets.  You ever see at the end of "Teen Wolf" the guy in the background who has his fly unbuttoned, therefore he zips his fly?  Obviously that wasn't part of the script.  I'm assuming the guy did it to get noticed.  And it worked.  It's possible this lady/man could've been doing something similar.  Only problem, it took nearly a century for someone to take notice.
