Re: Axl Rose playing drums with Matt!
You've obviously missed parts of my posts, where I mentioned that I really appreciate some of his songs, but his albums are very boring for me OVERALL. Colma is a good chill out record or what, and songs like Hog Bitch Stomp or Whitewash are amazing.
But as Axlin said, he's really hit or miss, and he's mostly miss. He's a very technical player and has released zillions of albums, but he'd need to learn how to sort out the good ideas and throw out the garbage. Also, he'd need to work more on his songs.

I have bitched and moaned about quality over quantity for years. He sells himself short with too many releases and its gonna fuck with this legacy.
However, there is plenty of buried treasure among his massive discography. If you're willing to say Hog Bitch Stomp and Whitewash are amazing, there are tons of songs in his discography that you would find just as amazing.
You should download his album A Real Diamond in the Rough for starters. That's an album of the decade contender. Also check out Condensed Chicken Noodles. If you don't have the Praxis album Transmutation, that is a must have. Also check out Electric Tears which was recorded during the CD sessions and it boggles the mind he recorded that himself while Axl was in desperate need of some of that material for CD. Had Bucket took Electric Tears to Axl in 01-02, might have changed the dynamics of the CD sessions completely.

I have wet dreams about Padmasana being coverted into a GN'R song.
When I said hit & miss, I was really referring to total quantity of his catalog, versus the rest.
As much as it pains me to say this, he has more crap credited to his name then greatness.
But you could go from 1992 to now, and cull the best 3 tracks from each of his albums, and still come out with numerous "masterpieces" imho.

I think this about notthingham lace. The start is too techno...but if you had a normal ballad then added on the whole last 5 mins of notthingham lace from where it starts doing that repeating riff with the shred over it. Damn it would be amazing.

We share that wet dream but honestly I'm not sure if he could do anything with it. That's not a knock against him either. Cornell would probably have difficulty with it as well. It's just so beautiful and its songs like that where I agree with Bri that a lot of this stuff is meant to be instrumentals.
A song from Electric that's really deserving of the GNR treatment is Sketches of Spain. Rework it a bit and it could have been their 'Nothing Else Matters'.
Witches on the Heath is another.
