Ok so some will no doubt think this is an ego trip but we all post extremely regular here on this board so if one of us were to suddenly stop I'm sure many of us would wonder. I've been without a cell phone for the last 4 months now by choice and as of January 1st 2011 I will be taking a  massive step back from the computer as well. For me I want 2011 to be about keepin' it real. Real simple that is.  I'm getting rid of cable, my cell phone and although I won't cut off my internet I will not be online participating in these types of forums for the forsseable future. Including stuff like faebook, twitter, U2 sites, whatever.  I just wanna get back to some real shit. reading books, going for walks and runs, working out, meeting people for drinks more often etc etc. I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about. So yeah if I'm suddenly absent that's the reason why. Nothing more, nothing less.

Also I want to wish you all the best in 2011. Who knows  maybe something Gn'R related will surprise us and excite us.

Good luck and have a good year. If I didn't sit in front of a computer 9 hours a day at work, I'd do the same.

Happy new year.

Hope it works out dude and have a good year if we don't see you.

Don't take this as an insult, but I've known people who were unhappy and took similar actions and it actually increased the sense of isolation and lack of direction many of us feel in our lives. May not be applicable to you, maybe you get offline and claim back your life, I'm just saying moderation in all things including the net is probablty best rather than hardcore use or hardcore abstinance...just my 2 cents...but we've never met so I have no idea if any of this relates..just scares me when people suddenly modify their behaviour.

Anyways..all the best and hopefully we'll see you around sometimes smile

GREAT New Year's Resolution! I'm so over technology myself. Did it for ten years, realized it's a dead-end medium (no offense to all the great people, and my great 'net friends here at Evo, I love you all!)

But it truely is the decline of civilization as we know it.

I have full plans myself going into 2011 to let my cell phone lapse and get rid of it, and devote myself back into studying, truely reading the material, spending time with old friends and family, going on walks, listening to music, going out to some shows, and kickin' it old school - like 100 years ago old school.

I've already cut back on my internet use greatly, and I think I may go back to just dropping in here once a week. We'll see.

Best of luck with the resolution, and I wished more people would follow it too. I miss "the good 'ole days", before the 21st century.

Happy New Years to you and everyone here at Evo. If I/we don't hear from you Bono, know that you've got our support and all the best wishes for 2011!

I tried this back in around 2002. I'd had a phone from 1995-2002 or so...and then I went cellless from 2002 until about 2004 when my work at the time ordered me to have one or they'd never promote me.

In some ways it's awesome. The ability to devote yourself to where you are is great. Like you actually pay attention to those around you rather than texting someone else etc. Also the ability to be off the map. You go out for the day and it's like in 1988. If you're out you are out. If someone wants to call you to ask where you left the stapler at work they just plain have to wait till you're free. You dont get inturupted with endless bullshit. Its great.

One thing I will say though was that I lost a lot of contacts for a long time. Sort of rebuilt them these days with facebook. But I found a lot of my mates were too wired into their phones to contact me any other way...so like if they cant sms me a place to meet up...I sit home alone. Could be i'm just mateless...but i'd advise caution that you work to maintian friendships if you plan on getting too hard to contact.

Nice. I'm going to quit eating junkgood for the whole year. I've let myself put on too much weight this year cos I got a bit depressed. So i'm going to try and stop adding crap into my system. I figure i'll still go the occasional beer when i'm out with mates, but stuff like KFC is gone till 2012.

Nice story, and alot that is part of the reason I look forward to it. I only have a few true blue friends, and I already kind of handle them the old way, so there won't be much of a transition.

I just call them on the weekend, see if they wanna get together, drive to their house and spend the day. Cookout, hanging, sittin' in the 'ole rockin' chair, drivin' 'round fucking around like in high school, helping them on weekend projects like housework or fixing up cars, whatever works.

Makes me feel like a kid again. I love it.
