Message to all members The explanation for the removal of "MSL" topics
First of all, we would like to apologise for not being able to communicate to you guys earlier. An unfortunate set of circumstances caught us out, involving most of us being extremely busy and Eric for a period having limited access to internet while in vacation in Cuba (MYGNR is blocked there, to make things more difficult).
Unfortunately, this period coincided with the delivery of fairly threatening letter delivered to Eric from Guns’ legal team that, in essence, demanded that we remove every and all topics relating to MSL and stolen data files “immediately”. Although we have responded to them, stressing that we do not believe that we have acted illegally in allowing members to hold discussions about the files, rather than face potential legal ramifications, we have chosen to respect their wishes that the topics cease to be posted.
As Eric was away, we felt it was inappropriate to reveal this to members until he returned – as the legal issues of the site are his business to handle.
Upon hearing that we were about to receive these letters, Bumblefoot contacted me on Facebook and essentially said that if it was any easier on us (in the wake of the letter), that it was OK for us to remove the threads he’d posted in. For now, we have done just that. We may restore them in the future at some point (we would really like to).
So, again – apologies for not letting you guys know why we suddenly removed all the threads about the incident. We were caught on the back foot and unfortunately didn’t have many options available to us. I hope this will satisfy any further complaints of “censorship” – we were simply acting in what we hoped were the best interests for the preservation of our site.
Thanks
- MYGNRFORUM Mod Team
Re: highvoltage from MYGNRFORUM Mod Team responds to recent thread removal
It's strange that MYGNR got a threatening letter from GN'R went its a band sponsored site. Did GNREVO get one? Strange stuff.
Plus, MSL embellished, exaggerated and flat out lied about the things he had.
Re: highvoltage from MYGNRFORUM Mod Team responds to recent thread removal
maybe they really don't know we exist..
or worse! they really don't care?!
Re: highvoltage from MYGNRFORUM Mod Team responds to recent thread removal
Ummmm....mayb cause that's the biggest 'Gn'R" forum on the internet and we have as many actives as HTGTH these days?
No offense.

I still don't understand why the Bumblefoot thread had to be pulled. Was that in the MSL topic?

There were too many posts in there that skirted the line about the MSL stuff for us to be sure we could have it up without potentially attracting further legal attention. As for whether or not he has the stuff he says he has? My personal opinion is that he does have some stuff, but as others have said - I think he has a lot less than he originally claimed to have and I think it was in a bid to maybe even try to get more (as he has done in the past). I only bring it up because I note that a lot of you are taking this letter as confirmation of his claims - I would personally not do that.
I don't want people to think we freaked out or were running scared with this. I'm happy to say that we responded with strong words that generally resonated with what you are saying: We weren't happy being contacted the way we were, we're not Axl's enemies - we're fans, and we weren't engaging in activity that could or should be described as illegal. This stuff had been discussed to death though, and it was apparent that it wasn't going to go any further - engaging in a legal battle would both seem futile and kind of pointlessly ironic - what kind of fan site gets into a lawsuit with the band they're supposed to be fans of?
I do believe that when Ron came here, he told us the absolute truth. I can't say that I've ever felt I was getting the "absolute" truth from MSL - if you remember, his "infamy" came about from an incident involving elaborate deception.

On what grounds could they threaten legal action? I'm not doubting you, I'm just curious.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well this is the thing - I'm in my final year of studying law, and to be honest with you, nothing "real".
What they could have done is made it out like we were publishing the stolen files wholly or "in part". I'm sure they would be able to progress the case a significant length to support that before we could prove that we weren't. They could certainly have made things very difficult for a period and we don't have the resources or the inclination to pursue them on it.
Very strange. I can't really picture them saying anything strongly to GN'R, considering the connection and that Axl posts there, other than "Yes, sir. We'll take it all down immediately."
But Highvoltage seems like a good guy. But then again, I don't know very much about anything on that site, other than his posts about this subject.
We were pretty open about what msl had (and didn't have )and the fact that, even though we're a small site, we didn't get anything telling us to shut up, is kind of funny. Axl is registered here. We've been quoted in the press before...
Re: highvoltage from MYGNRFORUM Mod Team responds to recent thread removal
I am going to go through the topic back to front today and the other mods are going to have a look too. Once it's cleaned up (no, we're not going to strip the life out of the thread), it will be back.
It's 58 pages - it's actually a bit of a task! But we'll get onto it. Again, sorry it's taken so long.
