In 1998, Sony accidently sold 700,000 camcorders that had the technology to see through people's clothes.
The cameras had special lenses that use infrared light (IR) to see through some types of clothing. It primarily works on dark colored, thin clothing - like swimsuits. The main factor is how well the fabric absorbs IR light waves. It's not for regular digicams, but rather for camcorders with a IR night vision mode, and the resolution is low.
Sony recalled the camcorders when they found out about this, but the night vision camcorders that they subsequently released can still be modified to give back the see-through-clothing functionality. A lot of people have abused this technology for nefarious purposes. You can read more about that in this ABC article.

This is according to a study done by Columbia University researcher Sudhir Venkatesh. Many of these "working girls" switched over to the site after Craigslist rid itself of the "adult services" category. Venkatesh discovered that about a quarter of each woman's clients came from the social networking site, while 31% were still provided by escort services. Seeing as how friendships and even marriages are often formed through these networks, it is not surprising to see Facebook's social advantages applied to nightly transactions.

The Hells Angels motorcycle gang planned to kill Mick Jagger.
The gang resented Jagger after the infamous Altamont Speedway Free Concert for which the Rolling Stones had hired them to provide security. Things got out of control, the Angels wound up stabbing and kicking a girl in the audience to death (she was carrying a gun), and Jagger swore never to hire them again. Upon learning this, the Angels responded in the only rational way possible: attempted murder.
The plot required the bikers to reach Jagger by boat, and thus failed when a storm came and flooded their boat. All of the Hells Angels in the boat were thrown overboard. They survived, but that was enough to convince them to give up. Gee, if only the Hell's Angels had some other mode of transportation besides boats. They should get on that.
This fact has only recently came to life thanks to testimony from an FBI agent. You can read more about that here.

An Iowa artist built a complete model of Hogwarts out of matchsticks.
Based on the movie version of the castle, artist Patrick "The Matchmaker" Acton spent nearly three years building his own model of the infamous School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The magnificent model was on display at the Matchstick Marvels Museum in Gladbrook, IA until 2006, when it was moved to Majorca, Spain to commemorate the opening of "The House of Katmandu." (Take a look! It's amazing!)
Acton has built around 60 matchstick models since 1977, but Hogwarts is by far his largest, containing over 602,000 sticks held together with 15 gallons of wood glue! His other creations include the U.S.S. Enterprise from Star Trek, the United States Capitol building, and the city Minas Tirith from The Lord of the Rings.
