Re: The Howard Stern Thread
I flicked by the "Mike Francessa" show on YES yesterday and just happened to hear frequent Stern Show caller and impersonator extraordinaire "Sour Shoes" call in.

For his wide-ranging interview with Howard Stern in the new issue of Rolling Stone, on stands and online in the digital archives (subscription required) this Friday, writer Neil Strauss spoke to Howard Stern for over three hours at SiriusXM headquarters in New York. They discussed Stern's traumatic divorce from his ex-wife Alison, the wild period in his personal life that followed before he met his second wife Beth, former sidekick Artie Lange's suicide attempt, his many years in therapy and his plans for the next five years of his radio show.

Right now Stern tapes on Mondays through Thursdays, but that's probably going to change. "When it came down to sort of figuring out what I was really after, I was pretty sure I was going to leave the radio," Stern says about his recent contract renewal. "I thought I'd kind of done what I needed to do. I still enjoyed it, but I also found that I wanted time to do some other things. Right now, my schedule is pretty much the same as it's always been. And then as time rolls on I'll probably do about three shows a week."

Other highlights:
• Before the interview Stern spoke with Strauss on the air for nearly an hour, eventually getting the writer to reveal a shockingly personal detail about his girlfriend. "When you got into your girlfriend being dry [during sex], that's when I knew I hit a home run. You hit it, but I brought you there. I knew my audience was going out of their minds. I could sense them all with us. And I did my job."
• Artie Lange, Stern's former sidekick who attempted to kill himself early last year and has been off the air ever since, has spoken with Stern recently about returning to the air. "He said to me recently that he would be willing to come on the air and explain what happened and stuff," says Stern. "I don't even feel strong enough within myself or that I'd be doing the right thing by him, because I don't want to do the wrong thing for Artie. I just want Artie to stay alive."

Re: The Howard Stern Thread
It's hard as friggin' hell to understand Howard's stance on Artie.
All I can assume is that Artie gets back on the junk from the pressure involved with everyday production of Stern's show, and Howard knows it, and thus doesn't want him back, even for a guest appearence unless the circumstances are absolutely perfect.

Howard has tried to explain this a couple of times. He's said that what Artie did was shocking to him and it really shook him up. I can only imagine he felt somewhat responsible, or at least, that he should have seen it coming. You look back at Artie's behavior leading up to the suicide attempt and it seems pretty clear. Obviously revisionist history.
Howard has said that he doesn't know what the right thing to do is when it comes to the Artie situation. I think it's safe to say that it wouldn't be healthy for Artie to come back as a member of the show, and at this point Howard doesn't think it's right for him to come on as a guest either.
I didn't get it at first, but the more he's explained it, the more it makes sense. Artie did a horrible thing to himself, and that's tough to process. Someone you work so closely with and care for deeply, does something you don't think they're capable of doing. I wouldn't know how to react either.
Re: The Howard Stern Thread
I thought the Stern Show today was the best show in YEARS. First off, Maria Menounos was on, and she's hot. I thought she was great on the show, with some major help from her longtime boyfriend. She's kept him somewhat of a secret over the years but Howard brought him on and he let loose about everything Maria. Shaved, sexual preferences, etc. There were no boundaries.
I'd like to point out to, an amazing factoid about their relationship. They met in college when she was 19 and FORTY lbs. overweight. He exclaimed that he saw some potential in her and stuck with her as she developed into the hot piece of ass she is today. Now THAT folks, is a supreme talent evaluator. I can only imagine the number of guys who brushed her off because of the excess weight.
Anyhow, I thought the interview was fantastic, but I've read a few comments to the contrary. Am I just blinded by her beauty and her love for Boston sports? Let me know what you think.
And to be honest, her boyfriend DOES make the interview, so if you get bored by just her, skip to when he comes in on part 2 about 3 minutes in and he starts revealing the intimate details around the 5 minute mark. From there on out it's smooth sailing.
