In The Electric Mist

I recently watched a surprisingly good movie, called 'In The Electric Mist', a 2008/09 DTV murder mystery movie with Tommy Lee Jones & John Goodman. It was one of those 'borrowed from a friend'-type things, and I wasn't expecting much. Honestly my first reaction was - "how good could it be, it wasn't even released in theaters". Considering Tommy Lee Jones, I figured it was a bad movie hidden away on DVD, because of it's awfulness.

I was flat out blown away at how much it WASN'T that. It was suprisingly good. It reminded me of No Country For Old Men, had it been done in swampy, bayou Louisana, rather than dusty Texas. Action, Tommy Lee Jones as a southern Sheriff, John Goodman as a pimp, Confederate ghosts, and lots of twists n' turns... it's got it all.

Not the greatest movie ever made, but definitely worth at least one watch. It's good.

I went to see Insidious a few weeks ago. It was a bit jumpy till half way through, the 2nd half was too cliché-d. When the lights are turned on, the element of surprise kind of vanishes.

The film is a breath of fresh air in this era of remakes/sequels.

Poltergeist tongue.

Almost.

16 I didn't really get a Poltergeist vibe from it but you're right there's a few minor similarities, mainly a family being terrorized in their own home. Besides, Poltergeist is 30 years old so I still consider it a breath of fresh air. You're in Europe so aren't drowning in as much of this American tripe. I know you watch American films obviously but you can look the other way much easier.

You told me about this turd the other day and even though you consider it one of the worst movies ever made and I do value your opinion on these movies, I'm tempted to watch it just so I can experience it. Not into "torture porn" flicks at all but this movie sounds like one that's so bad you just gotta watch it. 16

If its worse than Motor Home Massacre(which I think is the worst movie ever made), I'll be shocked.

LMAO! You would be tempted to watch something like that! Some parts made me laugh because it was just so stupid 16

He probably doesn't want her hunting after him either when she grows up.

Reminiscent of Godfather II. 16

I watched Donnie Brasco last night. Seen it before obviously but that is such a fucking great movie. I watched the 'Extended Cut' but didn't notice anything different. Maybe the extended cut is the version I've always watched. 16

I just never got the 'greatness' around Donnie Brasco. I don't think it's bad, but I just don't see how great it is, other than Pacino's performance, which is amazing.

Everyone talked about how Depp should've won an award... huh.... i've seen Depp turn in those same kind of performances undercover on 21 Jump St.

Now Blow, that's a movie he knocked out of the park.

There was just nothing I remember blowing me away about Donnie Brasco.

What year was this film released?  I searched on imdb and found several titles under torture.

I saw this a while back and it was ok.  I liked Jones and Goodman and the soundtrack as you said but I wished it was a bit longer as I remember some plots that were left unanswered.  Anyway, the DVD that was released in the US was a producers cut and not the directors cut which had a longer run time.

If you enjoyed the story, this is actually adopted from a novel by James Lee Burke who has written a series of novels that involve the Tommy Lee Jones character.

watched a bunch of films lately

Tell Me Something 2/10  Saw this Korean film on Netflix and this bored the shit out of me.  A lot of time is just wasted by scenes just having the cops standing around and talking.  The pace of this thing is lethargic.  The ending doesn't make a lot of sense.  Only thing that stops me from giving it a 1 is that there were a couple of good scenes and that's it. Side Note:  I thought the lead actor looked familiar, so I looked at his name on imdb, turns out he was in a much better Korean film called White Night which I watched.

Arang--another Netflix korean title.  This one was actually interesting.  It's a combo ghost/thriller film.  The atmosphere is pretty good here.  Some parts  creeped me out.  Could have been longer 6/10

Back to the Future Trilogy:

Back to the Future--This one is probably my favorite of the 3.  Combines some interesting ideas with two great performances by Lloyd and Fox.  8/10

Back to the Future II--Much better than when I saw it in the theater about 22 years ago.  I understood the plot a lot better and it bookends with the first film well at least on the topic of time travel.  Elizabeth Shue was a downgrade from the actress who played Jennifer in the first BTTF.  7/10

Back to the Future III--Loved this when I saw this as a kid but when I watched it today, it didn't really do anything for me.  It's not bad or anything I just think that most of the issues in the film were kinda covered by the first two installments.  Marty pretty much takes a backseat toward the Doc-Clara romance storyline. 5/10

Planned on watching Trust last night but I'm gonna watch it tonight. Sounds like a great film and the trailer definitely makes it look promising.
