I don't follow sports AT ALL (which is somewhat odd for an Australian trust me ) but I can understand the fanaticism.

I mean there's sports fans who wouldn't understand at all why people like me would travel hundreds of miles for a rock concert - Or why some of us have music memobrilla collections and the like.

I think everyone is  into something..for these people having that ball repesents more than it would to you or me.
