Re: My GNR Collection - WARNING LOTS OF PICS
Thought I would show a few new things I have acquired lately.
Got some great Test Pressings:
7" Sweet Child Remix
7" WTTJ
12" Paradise City (Germany)
12" AFD (Germany)
12" Lies (USA)
12" Nov Rain with rare red border (usually it's black), not sure if this is a test pressing/miss pressing?
Also got just a few regular 7" inches, one Nightrain with a German fact sheet with it, plus a DJ version of It's So Easy. None really rare just little things to cross off my list of things still needed to collect.
Got some cool Promo cassettes (thanks to Troccoli), plus a couple of nice Japanese versions of AFD and Lies cassettes.
Also found a rare version of the Nightrain cassette. The one on the left in the pic is the regular one, but this was has a heap of yellow on the front and back. At first I thought it just might have been faded but it's not (besides the black on the man would be faded too if it was). Plus the Geffen logos on the side are different colours to the standard one. So it's either an alternate version I have never seen or a misprint?
Re: My GNR Collection - WARNING LOTS OF PICS
Out of curiosity, what's with the white labels on the vinyls?
The White Labels are test pressings. They are pressed in very small quantities usually around 5- 10 copies, in some cases more. They usually only come in plain white sleeves (i.e. without the picture covers) and are used to test the sound quality, most are supposed to be destroyed soon after. In some some cases they are used as promotional copies and these are sometimes issued with the actual picture cover sleeves. Notice on the Lies one there is a triangle cutout of the picture cover, this is probably to prevent it being sold.
The ones that do see the light of day usually are either smuggled out of the pressing factories by employees or acquired by higher up company executives for personal collections etc.
Obviously the small numbers make them collectible (to some )

Thinking about it more, what must be really collectible would be a Chinese democracy test pressing. They must be as rare as unicorns and leprechauns because I'm sure as hell they didn't do any test runs to check the sound quality (look for inner groove distortion etc) on the vinyl lp's.
