Re: Guns N' Roses Vinyl LPs
I dont know what the original sounds like, I'd imagine it would be pretty good since most lp's did in those days. Its presses in later years that most problems occur imo, I had well over a thousand records and Chinese Democracy was one of the worst, if not the worst. A few songs sounded decent, but mostly it was mediocre and all the inner songs were completely unlistenable.
Hey I wonder when the alternate artwork copies of the vinyl will emerge, that'd be something.
Re: Guns N' Roses Vinyl LPs
finally listend to CD on vinyl...i played it for some freinds (its their record player)
anyway we played CD, Better, TWAT, Scraped, Madagascar, This I Love, IRS, Blues & catcher....no skips....TWAT did some weird volume swells though in the middle
I dont think i'm in tune with the differences in technology, cuz nothing immediately jumped out at me as being glaring quality difference between that and the CD
Re: Guns N' Roses Vinyl LPs
I haven't heard it, but I feel Russ on that technical shit.
Ever since the advent of Audacity, and me actually using earphones and going over and over and over mixes and remixing and tweaking shit...
My innocence is lost
I'll hear little mix fuck up's in masters now, and it bugs the hell out of me, because I keep hearing it... and no one else does. Just in-general stuff.
In some ways, I wish I didn't hear it, but it dawned on me that most casual listeners are not really using all of the hearing + brain power to listen to stuff 95% of the time. They are just listening to the basics. Vocals + guitars. That's it.
It's especially bad with DVD's. Anyone else get infuriated like I do with modern audio mixes on DVD's/BluRay's where the mixer turns the dialog WAY DOWN and turn the FX audio WAY UP? They're trying to give the "trick sound" of sounding like the mix has 'boasting 5.1 audio'.
All it is, is the watcher/listener has to turn the audio WAY UP to hear the dialog, then gets blown the fuck out when the effects audio hits.
It's lazy, and irriating.
*end rant*
When Russ said that, it get me all riled up.

Re: Guns N' Roses Vinyl LPs
i've got AFD & CHIDEM on vinyl and listen to them quite a bit. also have the chidem/shackler's 7" and listen to that occassionally as well.
Re: Guns N' Roses Vinyl LPs
The thing about vinyl is, if you really want the best sound quality then bigger is better. You get the best sound quality from 12" singles (33 1/3rpm playing speed) , 7" singles (45 rpm) are ok I suppose but not that great, you used to get 10" vinyl that were pretty cool, they were 45rpm as well but much, much better quality.
It bugs me that people nowadays buy albums on vinyl, there is multiple tracks on each side of the 12" LP's, and they expect to hear this difference in sound quality from their cd's - but for the most part they wont because LP's were never that great for sound quality, there was so many tracks squeezed into one side that the sound quality was poor.
But take the same size record and have just one or 2 songs per side, then you've got yourself that legendary sound that shits on cd's
