Re: Guns N' Roses Live From Rock In Rio
I liked the show. Wasn't awful, wasn't great. The band misses Robin and Bucket, though. Badly. But I like the way they've made the music their own with DJ and Ron. Slower with more groove.
Jungle sucked.
NR sucked.
Nightrain solo sucked.
I still think Axl sounded better than in 2002. There were some really cool moments, some bad moments. There was enough good to not make me write it off.
Why we're acting so shocked and disgusted with Axl's temper tantrum seeing this is the way he's always been... No, actually, he's better now. Old Axl would have split.
I think Buzz should watch the whole show. He knows it wasn't great, but there were some cool moments, imo.

Yeah, reading through this thread a bit. Some over reactions. Axl actually laughed off a lot of the screw ups and his flubs. Didn't really get pissed until Patience. Thought he did PC pretty well for not moving an inch.
And it was the first show, too. No sense to act like the sky is falling... again.

Just back from the show, soaked and very cold! The rain was torrential and the stage and audience were soaked yet the band put on a killer gig and the audience was crazy! Anyone trying to judge it from youtube is a fool!
Found this on htgth and thought it was funny.
Didn't know YouTube was out of tune
The YouTube mix was definitely fucked beyond belief for the guitars. But the one thing they did get right was putting Axl's voice front and center. Serj's vocals for SOAD were drowned out on the stream by the instrumentals. But hell, maybe the mixers SHOULD have drowned out Axl's vocals with how shitty his performance was.
Re: Guns N' Roses Live From Rock In Rio
And he's always had trouble remembering lyrics. No big shock. He's fucked up lyrics before even with the teleprompter. Did since he started. Elvis and Sinatra had problems remembering their own lyrics.
Forgetting lyrics, getting pissed, throwing tantrums = Nothing new.
Not excusing it, just think its funny people are now upset about this. Again, it was better than some of the shit that went down in 2002.

I mean, I've bled GnR for years. I'd defend Axl til the bitter end. But man, tonight just hurt. I don't know what to think right now. I want to see him play, but I don't want to witness his downfall. I don't want him to become (more of) a joke. I want him to come out and kick ass. He did that with Estranged. And then fell all over the place. I'm hoping it was the weather, the techs, anything. But I just don't know.
Yeah, I think it's clear that something (or many things) pissed him off tonight. I don't think he seemed uninterested from the start, but definitely something happened along the lines that got to him. He stuck around and ever recovered at points, but it kept happening. Just when things started to turn around, something else would piss him off.
I agree, he should man up and get over it in the end. He did at points, but he was spent by the end. It was sad to see it end that way, since this was such a highly publicized event. If this was any regular show it'd be no big deal, but this was viewed by the world. Hopefully they didn't notice as much as we did, but I don't think we're that lucky.
A disappointing night, and it pains me to say that. Hopefully they can come back strong from this. We'll just have to wait and see what happens next.
As Russ pointed out, things changed during NR. The whole vibe felt different after that.
Re: Guns N' Roses Live From Rock In Rio
It being the first show is no excuse, he's had a good rest after a long tour last year, he should have rolled into this show fit, rehearsed and ready to give the performance of his life - like he should at every show he's sold tickets to see him do his thing.
Gonnie have to watch it all tonight to get a better idea of what took place here, I only caught the last 4 or 5 songs and it was a disgrace, so I'm hoping theres something earlier to redeem things a little.
Re: Guns N' Roses Live From Rock In Rio
After Patience and before PC it sounds like someone says (presumably to Axl):
"Aww Man I haven't seen you in a little over a year, it sounded pretty fucken good as far as I'm concerned".
That was definitely Tommy. He was really trying to build Axl up at the beginning of PC.
So, no new songs and Estranged. One hit, and one miss. No new songs is a disaster. Axl have had bad shows before, just too shitty it came at RIR, supposed to be a major comeback sort of deal. Not good.
Definitely agree. He needed new songs. That was a failure. It would have made up for the lack luster feeling of the rest of it.
I can't believe how off Ron was. Maybe it had something to do with the accident? He totaly blew the Jungle and Nightrain performance.
I'll say it again, they need Robin and Bucket back. Not just one or the other, but both. They played off each other fantastically.
I'm not slagging Ron and DJ, though. I loved them on CD and how they changed Mr. Brownstone. Sounded good.
