Re: Guns N' Roses Live From Rock In Rio
Neemo wrote:so when does the show get bad? cuz i'm on RQ and they are ruling
From NR on, it was terrible for me.
edit: I should say "Axl was terrible for me" the band rocked throughout IMO. And in case you missed it last night; hell froze over and I heavily complimented DJ on his Estranged solo.
Yeah, I thought up to that point they were actually picking up steam and things were looking pretty good. But from that point on things went downhill. Honestly, I could look past the missed lyrics or lack of cohesion being their first performance together on a large scale like that in over a year. I know you can say they should've been more prepared, and a few warmup dates probably would've helped.
But the thing that got me, which people have covered extensively. Was Axl's actions and demeanor towards the end, notably on the last 2 songs. There was no passion and he looked like he wanted to be anywhere else but there. And I do think, deep down he was upset with his own lackluster performance. I'm not sure if he'll actually admit to that, pass blame on other factors, or never speak of it again. But it was extremely sad to see him like that. Very reminiscent of the Dublin gig when he was "forced" back onstage after getting pelted with bottles. He played the rest of the gig standing in one spot, once again like he didn't want to be there.
He knows what a big deal RIR is in the grand scheme of things, and he knew things weren't going very well. I can understand him getting upset, I just wish he could've gotten past it. The crowd was definitely behind him 100%, but I guess he had just had enough.
The good news is, they rebounded from that Dublin gig, so they can and most likely will, do so again. I hope he's in better spirits on Wednesday, and we can all move on from this less than stellar event.

All I can say is this thread has made for some interesting reading and comments that aren't what I expected from some people. There are a few everything is beautiful thoughts here and there, but for the most part everybody seems to see it about the same.
In some ways I find it sad to see some of the comments from some big time new band supporters.
Re: Guns N' Roses Live From Rock In Rio
I found it interesting that Axl didn't really leave the stage much during solo breaks like he used to. anybody else notice that?
Well there wasn't really much of a reason to leave the stage and enter his hyperbolic chamber, as he didn't run around stage due to the inclement weather. I'm sure he'll be back to his old self soon enough.
At least I hope so.

ok....ycbm is just starting for me as i type this...and i really have to say in all honesty that up til now this gig is pretty good....band sounds really good...and axl is not bad for the most part but yes noticible vocal hiccups (lack of breath) throughout especially on faster tunes, but all in all its not a bad performance up til this point...in all honesty...the video and sound is pretty sweet on these vids
i want that GNR wristband that Richard has! thats f'n cool...anyway
is it just me or has axl gone back for oxygen less than normal during this thing? (ha jsut as i said it he took for a breather)
as the tour progresses Axl's vocal stamina will get better, and hes fightin through it so i'm not too concerned tbh....at the end of YCBM Axl gives a bit of a "god damn"

from what I've seen yes...much better quality but Ax still has some very rough spots. Band sounds awesome on the tv stuff.
Good to hear. Guitars were completely screwed over in the YouTube mix.

I hear you neemo, looking back on it I agree the show was pretty solid at points. Unfortunately the way it ended left a sour taste in my mouth. I don't like seeing people sad, and Axl had the look of a beaten man by the end. If he had been in better spirits, my take on the show may have been entirely different. But he didn't instill much confidence that it was a banner night for GNR.
Re: Guns N' Roses Live From Rock In Rio
i think that axl got lost at that part in NR and then he looked around at the telepromters but they were covered with bags wet from rain so probably hard to see...so he jsut said fuck it to the lyrics for the rest of the song...i think it messed up the guys though without the vocal cues for changes...could be wrong though...def sounded odd without the words
