Re: Pope calls for global authority
The Vatican called on Monday for the establishment of a "global public authority" and a "central world bank" to rule over financial institutions that have become outdated and often ineffective in dealing fairly with crises.

It's official then? Him being infallible and all?
Re: Pope calls for global authority
The statement was cool until they blamed "neo-liberal thinking" in being the problem.
Actually it's been the complete polar opposite. "Neo-conservative" thinking is what put (at least America) in the spot they're in. And seeing how the world's economy is tied into how we're doing with investments n' all... yeah i'll stick with that.
Re: Pope calls for global authority
This is odd because a sign of the end times in the Christian religion is a one world authority.
Yeah but I believe that was referring more to government.
Not a banking watchdog.

But then again you could look at it as if you control supply & demand, you control the world and then it does play right into Christian theory.
Re: Pope calls for global authority
I don't see the problem with a one world government.
As a guy who travels a bit, and will be zipping from country to country a lot more over the next few years, I say bring it on. Would make roaming from country to country a lot easier and a lot cheaper.
In a philosophical sense we all know sovereignty hasn't existed for a long long time. Let's embrace it.
@BLS
The thing about Catholicism as opposed to christianity at large is that it is in fact governed by a lot a LOT of theological and philosophical doctrine.
When Ratzinger talks of God for instance. He's not talking about a great man in the sky.
Not at all. In fact Ratzingers own work in theology was all about showing just how science and philosophy explain what"god" truly is.
The man believes that truth and love are identical, and what is scientifically provable as true is true.
For the current pope, God=Love=Truth=Science.
That's why he's pope. That is why catholicism still exists. The people are the top are notoriously intellectually savvy. Furthermore they are rational.
Hard to believe isn't it? But at this very moment, the rank and file of the catholic church are more harmful than the actual elite. It's amazing in fact and the first time in history that this has been the case.
Ratzinger is pope because they want him to instill a top down change that supports his more rational conception of god as the universal constant. That is to say God = the rules of our universe. (e=mc2 etc.)
I personally hope that he can. I think that is a huge task but... fingers crossed.
Here's a link to some of Ratzingers ideas on truth:

The man is a realist, of course he wants a one world authority. It'd make life so much easier.
