He must have come down sick pretty quickly.  To go from being ready to party at a night club in his best fur coat, to suddenly too sick to do the concert.  lol

Spose I would feel a bit sick in the stomach if I got knocked back from a club coz they didnt' like what I was wearing.  But but but I'm a celebrity.... how dare you.  So did he just throw a hissy fit and decide to take his bat and ball and go home?

Im sure he probably did tell someone to cancel the concert that morning in a fit of rage.  His "handlers" and/or management probably thought he would come round by the afternoon so didn't send through his request to cancel it (even though they told Axl they did).  Come the afternoon/evening he is still not gonnna do the show.  The shit then hits the fan.

Going with that train of thought,

You go somewhere else, get drunk, cancel the show, go on a bender.

This would not be because of a fur coat. This would be because CC has put up a good chunk of money for a tour behind the most anticipated rock album in recent memory.

There is no album. There's an insecure Axl Rose in baggy shirts and sweatpants roaming the stages, if he shows up in time. Ticket sales have been below expectations, partially because of a no-album and the Vancouver riot.

The tour has picked up in the last few dates to bigger crowds and warmer reviews. The previous night at a sold-out MSG was a tour de force for the new band - but, apparently, still not as convincing towards ClearChannel as Axl'd hoped.

The stress is up and Axl would prefer to be back in the studio with his album than overhearing his management and CC reps having a go.

"The hell with this," he thinks and turns the TV on.

First off,

I think it's great Axl took the time to speak up and apologize. Must've meant a lot to him personally to get both Vancouver AND Philly off his chest as of late.

A few questions arise:

- If Axl was spotted at the Spa at 3AM, what happened between that and 6AM to make him cancel the show?

- Why didn't his management cancel the show in the morning, or at least summon a physician? Axl's best interests would've been served with a medical statement sent to the promoter.

- Why wasn't the band notified on Axl's condition, as according to Tommy's friend, they were in Philly ready to play that night?

- What was the issue ClearChannel were having in Florida? GNR was slated to play two dates there in the following weekend.

All accounts point to a degree of powerplay, but by whom and to what end, it's hard to say.

I wouldn't take the NY Post as some sort of beacon of journalistic integrity and accuracy.  So, don't assume that publication is correct in saying he was at a club then.

As far as why the band wasn't notified, you'd have to ask GN'R management at the time.

As far as Florida goes, I'm not sure what Axl was getting at.

I don't get why it is hard to believe he came down with something in the middle of flu season.  Additionally, it was what was announced at the venue that night.

Axl's excuse for Vancover was utter bullshit though. When you're not in the same country as the show when the doors to the venue are supposed to open you had no intention of playing anyways. I don't buy his BS on that for one second.  Never did, never will.  Saying he was on hsi way is just flat out a lame cover up bullshit excuse and of course his bandmates confirm his bullshit. He signs their cheques.

the Philly thing was a joke too. Simple no show for the hell of it.

Amazing how many Axl fans have given him the benifit of the doubt on those two situations.

Then, we tried to cancel it again but Clear Channel wanted the tour to fail so they didn't let me cancel it. They wanted me to just not show and cause a riot. But the truth is, I was sick. It didn't have anything to do with fur coats, or basketball games".

It's cool that he addressed it, finally.  It was in December, so prime time for virus-based illnesses.

And yet again what's the common theme? He blames everyone else. He's so full of shit yet some just eat it up whatever he says. CC wanted the tour to fail and wanted a right uh huh roll His manager lied uh huh roll Funny how his bandmates had no clue what was going on..... gee maybe that's cause Axl's story to this is absolute garbage.

I agree.  I must admit, I read about this earlier and thought he was once again pushing blame elsewhere per usual.  Which, he basically did.  BUT, I do give him credit for bringing it up AND apologizing for his actions in the whole ordeal.  He DID say, he wasn't innocent.  So that is at least taking part of the blame.  That's a step in the right direction, as he usually accepts ZERO blame no matter what.

Again, it's small, but it's something.  Also, let's say it WAS 100% his fault.  I don't think it would've been a smart move for him to admit that onstage last night.  You never know how that would've gone over.  So explaining his side of the story, dispelling some of they myths, and then apologizing seemed appropriate for the time and place.

Read my post carefully.

You'll notice I never debunked Axl's story about getting sick.

I just pointed out some questions which arose/remain unanswered after Axl's little sound byte.

I wouldn't trust Axl's word to be gospel in this, because there's too much red-tape and litigation behind the 02 tour.

He knows more than he lets on, and even if it all boils down to the things he said ("it wasn't fur coats"), that's nice, but he's still to unveil the nuts and bolts which would absolve him.

That's why it was smart enough to apologize, because frankly, I'm fed up with the sharp contrast drawn by his hangers-on. Either people bow to him or they are the enemy.

Don't be too upset if his words don't hold up for scrutiny. He apologized and Philly accepted.

Be nice if he dropped by reading next time and apologise for the fuck up there. And from what I heard it was entirely his fault on this occasion (fans don't care if you don't want the BBC to film you)
