Go for it Neemo and get a little partner for the kitten too (take a brother or sister also)!!! They keep each other company when you guys are out.

You might know this... before you move the kitten(s) in, just rub the legs of your furniture with the bedding they have been sleeping in as when they come into your home for the first time, they will smell themselves off everything and not be so freaked out.

Also, if they are very young and crying for their mother, put a ticking clock and a hot water bottle wrapped in a blanket in their bed at night. That calms them down as the clock reminds them of their mother's heart beat and the heat makes them feel safe.

I've had seven cats.. MiMi, Cheese, Topper, Redford, Spock, Coke and Stephen...all totally different and totally cool.

cats are a trip..!
Good luck man..

Yeah we've had 2 cats.

Neemo and Meridian...both have passed now

we also have a dog pepper, but she is cool, loves all people/pets, the debate is on to get 2 instead of one

one question for anyone who has an opinion...get a brand new (like 8wk old) or get one a bit older, say 4mo's old, i'm thinking the younger one would be fun for the kiddies to deal with...but whats 2 months right? but the really cute part is when they are really tiny and have no dexterity at all 16

Ahh!!! Yes! Yay kittens! I would definitely get two if they are siblings. When I got Nikki (will post a pic tonight when I get home from work), she had a brother at the shelter I got her from and I left him behind. There were seven to begin with and she and her brother were the only ones left when I got there. The regret was almost immediate.

I also recommend getting brand new kittens. You can find them super young if they have been abandoned at a shelter, but sometimes if the mother is there, you can't get them right away. Nikki was only 3 weeks old when I got her, and she weighed 11oz. She fit inside the palm of my hand, and I had to feed her formula with an eyedropper.

Man I miss her being a kitten!! <3

Good Luck, Neemo and family!

Get two kittens. Since I did it, and seeing how good their personalities are with another cat around (especially a sibling), and how playful they remain even when they turn into cats, I'll never just get one cat again.

I have 3 indoor cats(Monk, Amos, and Guy) and a bunch of outdoor cats. I've always loved cats but after Duff died my interest is waning. These will probably be the last 3 that I have.

Guy was a severely abused cat I rescued a few years ago. Didn't want him at all but I wasn't gonna leave him on the street in that condition.

I'd get a kitten and one a few months older, or maybe save an adult cat from the streets or from the pound.

Took in a street cat a few years ago. Love him to death, but don't think I'll get another one. Such a pain when you have to travel somewhere.

Glad I live in Norway though. Breaks my heart to see all the stray animals in poorer countries. In Turkey I'd see dead dogs lying in the streets. Florida wasn't much better. In fact you'd might find it worse, there you'd see humans living in similar conditions...

My advice would be male cats. Don't know why but all the male cats I had were much more affectionate than the females. But it could be chance I guess.
