Re: I finally bought Slash's book
pretty plain disclaimer by slash once the GnR part of the book kicks in
My memory is hazy on the various events that led to the forming of Guns N' Roses, because, to be honest, for the most of it I wasn't there. I'm not here to present the academic history of the band or set straight every misconception; I can only speak of my experience.
I dunno how anyone can try to bitch about the accuracy of the book when this is like the first thing he says about Guns. I'm at page 100 and its a pretty good read so far, there is already things that i didnt know. He talks about meeting different people in the orig band and the rest of the LA scene..now is the part where he is getting into the original lineup....funny though Slash calls Ole Beich, Ole Bench
but going back the LA Guns Side of things, once Izzy joined LA Guns, Axl talked Tracii into naming the Band Guns N Roses, merging both LA Guns and Hollywood Rose (As everyone knows of course) so the first lineup of GNR was Axl, Tracii, Izzy, Rob Gardiner and Ole Beich. Then for whatever reason Ole is replaced by Duff (Slash didnt elaborate) then Tracii and Axl got into a fight and Axl invited Slash back....and Slash obliged him and the Band was then Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff and Rob Gardiner...by this Time they had already written Don't Cry...at the point I'm at Steven isnt in the band yet
The biggest thing i didnt realize, was that Slash was in an Izzy-less Hollywood Rose for a short Time...but quit after a Gig where Axl smashed a bottle over some guy's head....also before that Slash, Duff and Steven tried to get a band off the ground and during the sessions they created the riff that would become RQ...Slash broke up that band because Steven was more interested in partying than making music
Re: I finally bought Slash's book
my new sig is from the book it made me laugh out loud
"I was in the bathroom sitting on the toilet, reading a magazine, when Martin and Duff started playing, and I listened through the door, I thought, Oh Boy. I was making something more appealing than what I was hearing at that moment, which just goes to show you that putting great players in the same room doesn't mean that they will sound great together" (Slash on trying to replace Adler)
