Re: 2012 NFL Season
I'm not worried about the Pats, nobody in their division is good enough to overthrow them, and they still have a 12-4 caliber team. They'll pick it up pretty soon
Yeah, the AFC East is pretty bad. Though Miami is playing some decent football. Crazy that they're the team to watch out for in the division, for the Pats. But I still think 9-7 could be good enough to win the AFC East. Not that the Pats will finish 9-7, but I think that could get it done. They looked a lot better yesterday, despite giving up yet another 50 yard TD pass early in the game. Aside from that, the offense was unstoppable and their defense played pretty well. Of course, everyone seems to be knocking the Rams for having a terrible game plan on both sides of the ball. But I found it much more satisfying than struggling to beat a poor Jets team in OT at home the week before. They have the bye next week, and they could certainly use it. A bunch of key players are banged up.
Overall I think they'll be fine. I could see 11-5. Their schedule in the 2nd half has some very winnable games, mixed in with back to back prime time home games against the 9ers and Texans. And the AFC as a whole is still up in the air. The Texans are obviously the best team right now. I'd expect Baltimore to continue to slide. Pittsburgh could benefit from that, as they've been playing better of late. Denver looks to be the class of the AFC West. I'd have to pick those 4 teams as the division winners at this point. Ravens maybe hold on for a wild card. It could be a mad dash for those 2 slots though. Patriots defense NEEDS to improve though be be a serious Super Bowl contender. They finally brought some pressure yesterday with the blitz. I'd like to see more of that, because they aren't getting enough pressure by rushing just 4, and the secondary is still getting beat. What more could possibly go wrong with sending more guys?
Re: 2012 NFL Season
The Chiefs have a stone cold lock on the #1 pick. This is how bad it's been for them--they have not lead at all this season. Not one second. That is very hard to do in the NFL. I think they take Barkley or Geno Smith. Another astounding stat--they have not won a game with a drafted QB since 1987.
I'm starting to think Denver might have a very legit chance to represent the AFC. Soft schedule should provide some easy wins and their defense + run game looks good. Only thing that gives me pause is that Manning is a choker in the playoffs.
I think most of the NFC spots are locked up barring a late season slump.
Atlanta
New York Giants
Chicago
San Francisco
Green Bay
Atlanta plays in a weak division. Redskins have no d. Cowboys and Eagles seem to be falling apart. So the Giants path to the division title just got a lot easier. Chicago has the best d in the league. San Francisco only has Seattle to contend with as Arizona has dropped off and the Rams are rebuilding. Green Bay seems to be clicking at the right time.
I could definitely see the Lions making a late charge for that last spot in the NFC. They've been playing better lately. Tough end of season schedule with games against ATL and CHI both at home provide a challenge though.
Re: 2012 NFL Season
ID, what's your take on the Dolphins? Have your thoughts on Philbin changed? Looks like they could be in the hunt for a wild card spot, or even give the Pats a run for the division. They've been surprisingly solid so far. Could really be 6-1. Shouldn't have lost that Jets game. Offense is still a work in progress, but the defense has been very good.
Re: 2012 NFL Season
Um, that was really embarrasing to watch today. Titans looked like a bunch of fools today. I expected them to lose but to at least put up a fight in the first half. At least they got blown out early so I could do some other things today.
Only problem I might see with the Bears would be OL pass protection.
Doug Martin scored 4tds today vs the Raiders. He also started for my FF team and got me 51 points.
Ponder played poorly today. So much so that he got called out by one of the announcers on Fox. 2nd time in three weeks that he hasn't mustered up 100 yards passing. That's very bad. Too bad since AP had a fabulous day.
Lions won again. Too bad Stafford didn't get any td passes. I believe Seattle has the last playoff spot right now. Green Bay probably has a head up on the first WC spot. So I believe Seattle and Lions, maybe the Bucs fight it out for the last spot.
