You'd figure.
But it's a different atmosphere in those altitudes. You don't get even that high by whimpering your way up. You just move on, focusing on your next step. Inching closer to them boots or that shape in the cave. One step... Another. Third. Slowly, the shapes build up.
The word surreal comes to mind.

No, not at all. Just saying a lot of things are dangerous, including life itself. I can think of worse places to die than at the top of Mount Everest.
And 200 sounds like a lot, but you'll still make it 99 times out of a 100.

I will ALWAYS find this beyond stupid.
Talk about a stupid way to die. I mean it's literally NO point to climbing a mountain. It accomplishes nothing. It's not like you're trying to find the original Kwik-E-Mart or something up there.
I've done hikes (on trails) that lasted a few hours and hit peaks around 11k up. It's a pretty awesome feeling to be up so high. I could only imagine the feeling of accomplishment one must have to climb a mountain such as Everest. Highly unlikely however, that it would be my cup of tea. That being said, I could understand the drive to undertake something like that.

I guess you and I just have to agree to disagree here.
To me, mountains are beautiful, and the ascent a spiritual undertaking. It's about reminding oneself how puny one is in the grand scheme of things, how fleeting our time on this rock is.
The sensation of being on a mountaintop on a full moon, with clouds hurling literally around you is something I could never hope to fully relate.
It's another world up there, and you only know it if you know it.
A have a deep rooted affinity for the mountains and feel the same way. Others I know could care less about them. Thankfully my wife shares my sentiment. Much of our time together has and will involve exploring and spending time in the rockies. I'll snow shoe, hike, ski....do it anyway I can.
