Re: What Is The Saddest Song Ever Written? (RS Article)
Lost Cause-Beck
These Days (well the slow acoustic parts explaining your own mortality i tend to start feeling something), Word Forward, and Friend of a Friend - Foo Fighters
I find to be upsetting at times. They have a ton of emotion in Dave's lyrics.
Lost Cause by Beck is awesome....great call

The music in Nutshell is touching but the "put on" fake element of Layne's voice makes it feel unauthentic in a way that something like "Drugs don't work" just isn't.
I have literally no clue what you're even saying here.
Nutshell is a put on? Seems pretty straight forward to me.

No particular order:
1. About Today - The National
2. The Scientist - Coldplay
3. Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own - U2
4. Crestfallen - Smashing Pumpkins
5. Drugs or Me - Jimmy Eat World
6. The End - Pearl Jam
7. Angel - Sarah McLachlan
8. Hard Letting You Go - Bon Jovi
9. From Where You Are - Lifehouse
10. Slow - Sarah Jade
*********************
Not sure how you can have a sad song list without the saddest band of all time:
1. Trust - The Cure
2. Treasure - The Cure
3. This is a Lie - The Cure
4. Apart - The Cure
5. Pictures of You - The Cure.

Thanks man! I watched him play it live on youtube from this performance back in 2003 and it brought out all of the emotion from that song. You can hear the heart break.

Beautiful Boy John Lennon. Listen to the Stripped Down version all the way through and you can see why it's such a bittersweet piece of song writing and what Lennon says at the end.

No not the lyrics of the song. The sound of his voice, seems a little manufactured. Which is at odds with the general Alice vibe.
edit: Looking at these comments again they seem harsh, I'm not trying to knock his voice, it's just a very strange and unhuman sound I think, hard for me to relate to it.

Again I find Fix You uplifting rather than sad. The Scientist though definitely a sad song, one of my friends a few years ago had the Scientist as he and his girlfriends song, it was not pretty when they broke up and it got played on the radio!
