Ten years ago, Guns N' Roses still looked like a good investment'”they'd gone platinum 32 times. So in 1998, Geffen Records could be forgiven for paying Axl Rose a million bucks to complete GNR's fifth album, promising a million more if he delivered it soon. (Rose had already spent four years working on the LP, losing every original bandmate in the process.) Beset by perfectionism, lack of focus and plain-old nuttiness, Rose never got that bonus million. But his label kept spending: In 2001, monthly expenses totaled $244,000. Four producers and a gazillion guitar overdubs later, the album is no closer to release. And Geffen's in the red for $13 million.

The article is right on the money when it comes to Geffen sinking 13mil in a record not yet released but the comment on the Hilfiger fight makes it look like Axl was just frustrated and started with him when that certainly wasn't the case.

The guy is 44 years old. It doesn't matter what happened, he needs to grow up and learn to control himself.

According to all the reports, Hilfiger took a swing at him because he moved his girlfriends drink over, before you say that Axl needs to grow up, I think the hot shot designer needs to get out of high school.
You're gonna tell me that if someone took a swing at you, you wouldn't do anything?

i dont see what that fight with hilfiger has to do with the geffen's funding of his album...this peice of journalism is pretty shady in that respect
at the time of the contract though it was a good investment...nowadays not so much. Hindsight is always 20-20
