Re: Obama gains more delegates
Last night, when I reported the net gain of 7 delegates for Obama out of yesterday's 99 county Democratic conventions, it was based on 96% of conventions reporting. But there were two Cong. districts where Edwards was teetering on the edge of viability, the 1st and the 4th. Well, Edwards teetered the wrong way and Obama netted the delegates. So, here are the final results:
Statewide: Obama won 52%, Clinton 32% and Edwards 16%. There are 16 delegates split up proportionately with Obama nabbing 8 delegates to Clinton's 5 and Edwards' 3.
Cong. District 1 (6 delegates): Obama won 54% to Clinton's 31% and Edwards' 14% (no viability). Obama won these delegates 4-2.
Cong. District 2 (7 delegates): Obama won 51% to Clinton's 30% to Edwards' 19%. Obama won these delegates 4-2-1
Cong. District 3: (6 delegates): Obama won 51% to Clinton's 31% to Edwards 18%. Obama won these delegates 3-2-1.
Cong. District 4: (6 delegates): Obama won 55% to Clinton's 34% to Edwards' 11% (no viability). Obama won these delegates 4-2.
Cong. District 5 (4 delegates): Obama won 47% to Clinton's 37% and Edwards' 15%. Obama won these delegates 2-1-1.
So the overall delegate take for each candidate: 25 for Obama (that's up from 16 during the Jan. 3 caucuses). 14 for Clinton (that's down one from her 15 during Jan. 3). And 6 hung with Edwards, that's down from 14 on Jan. 3.
So here's the new delegate total
Pledged Count: Obama leads 1,409-1,250
Superdelegates: Clinton leads 253-217
OVERALL TOTAL: Obama leads 1,626-1,503

Re: Obama gains more delegates
Its basically over. Its impossible for her to come back unless all the superdelegates swing her way, which isn't gonna happen. I know that it looks close, but there aren't enough primaries left for her to play catch up, and she cant beat him by a high enough percentage to make any comeback.
I seriously think she should drop out.

If she survives to the convention, she could easily get the nomination. Obama may have more popularity and more delegates, but the party is on Hillary's side. I'm fairly worried that Obama won't get the nomination.

I'm loving this. The GOP is going to have the time of their lives exposing Obama and his "church" to the independent voters. A couple good commericals and middle america will run for McCain. If the Democrats were smart, they'd bail on Obama now and give Clinton the nomination. The true investigations into backgrounds haven't even started yet and Obama is looking more and more like a loon. At least with Clinton all the skeletons have been exposed.

Flagg you must be joking, the Republicans have to want Clinton to beat Obama. They can play the standard politician v. politician game with her (a game they've won twice in a row). Also, with McCain's occasional liberal tendencies Obama supporters who hate Hillary (a number growing every day) could easily jump to McCain. Clinton supporters would find it easier to go to Obama.
Obama as democratic nominee will be president.

Fair point about the Clinton skeletons, but this church crap is nearing its end, and even if it continues, McCain will not be able to use it against him. McCain recently had positive words for Reverend Parsley at a campaign rally, and Parsley advocates destroying Islam because it is a "false religion", and actually wants a new "crusade".
Parsley's church is also on the verge of losing its tax exempt status.
In other words, McCain and Obama are in the same bed regarding the religious nuts.
America will not run for McCain. The country is in a mess, and there's just no way McCain will get the presidency. A vote for McCain is basically a vote for 4 more years of Bush.
Chevy Chase could run against McCain and beat him. McCain is not a viable candidate. Republicans were insane for hitching themselves to his wagon.
A McCain presidency would only be feasible if the economy was flourishing, no wars going on, our alliances more stable, etc.
The country cant survive a third rate Ronald Reagan wannabe presidency.
November is going to be a bit similar to 92. Its going to be a vote regarding the economy and anti Bush, and Obama or Clinton is going to defeat McCain by a larger margin than Clinton beat Bush/Perot.

Yeah, the republicans are dying for Hillary to be the nominee. Its the ONLY thing that might bring their base to the polls in high numbers.
Obama will destroy McCain in November.

Yet, Americans trust McCain more on Economic issues than Obama as a recent poll showed. Obviously they support him National Security moreso than any other candidate. If the Economy is the issue you belive will determine the election, most Americans trust McCain more than any other to resolve it.

As the recent article in the Aspen newspaper put it, "Angry White Men" will determine this election. Women and minorities always support the Democratic candidate, no change there. If it comes to fruition, and it has, that Obama associates and even supports radical elements of the black community (black seperatists and 9/11 wackos count) than the "Angry White Men" will vote for McCain. It's that simple.

If the white men are angry, why would they vote for what they've had for the past 8 years? I have to agree with, um, Gretchen (fuck it, I'm saying...) James, on this issue.
I feel you put too much faith in the 'adults', and too little faith in optimism and youth. For the record, I'm referring to the voters, not the candidates.
