Re: DR. PEPPER ISSUES CHALLENGE TO AXL ROSE!
I tried googling "Dr Pepper + Guns N Roses". Had a few hits actually. It sparked a huge debate on this forum.

When I used to post on Mygnr back in 2004, Kaneda would post his weekly rant about how he is pissed at Axl for not releasing CD and other various things that would piss him off, maybe he's changed and he's not frustrated anymore.
Anyway it's total bullshit, a big company like Dr. Pepper would never, ever do something like this. Giveaways yes, to try to get a band to release an album....I don't think so
Re: DR. PEPPER ISSUES CHALLENGE TO AXL ROSE!
if it was promotion in the making, the "try to get a band to release an album" as you put it would be just a creative angle and an agreement between the band/record label and dr pepper would already be made and the release date would already be decided upon. dr pepper wouldn't promote chinese democracy for free and without consent and use chinsee democracy to promote itself unless it was coming out finally and there was a a contract.
Re: DR. PEPPER ISSUES CHALLENGE TO AXL ROSE!
just to note that the thread on this at that "other place" hasn't been deleted or meddled with by any of the mods...
its gone now
anyway the NYPost has picked up the story maybe if nothing else we'll get a response from the band
DOCTOR'S ORDERS
March 26, 2008 -- TIRED of a world in which Americans idolize wannabe singers, and where musicals about high school students pass as rock 'n' roll, Dr Pepper is begging Axl Rose to finally release this year his 17-years-in-the-making album, "Chinese Democracy." The soft drink company's incentive to Axl, the frontman of Guns N' Roses? If he ships the album in 2008, everyone in America - except estranged guitarists Slash and Buckethead - will receive a free can of Dr Pepper. "It took a little patience for us to perfect Dr Pepper's special mix of 23 ingredients, so we completely understand and empathize with Axl's question for the perfect album," said a company spokesperson. Dr Pepper is asking fans to lobby Axl to drop the album already.Richard Johnson (NY Post)

I think we're more likely to get clarification from Dr Pepper than GNR to be honest

Dr Pepper Sweetens Pot For 'Chinese Democracy'
Axl RoseMarch 26, 2008, 11:30 AM ET
Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Many have tried, but so far nobody has been able to pry the decade-in-the-works Guns N' Roses album "Chinese Democracy" from the hands of lone remaining original member Axl Rose. Now, Dr. Pepper thinks it's up to the challenge. The soft drink company says it will give a free can of Dr Pepper to "everyone in America" (excluding ex-GNR members Slash and Buckethead) if "Chinese Democracy" arrives anytime during the calendar year 2008.
"It took a little patience to perfect Dr Pepper's special mix of 23 ingredients, which our fans have come to know and love," Dr Pepper director of marketing Jaxie Alt says. "So we completely understand and empathize with Axl's quest for perfection -- for something more than the average album. We know once it's released, people will refer to it as 'Dr Pepper for the ears' because it will be such a refreshing blend of rich, bold sounds - an instant classic."
Dr Pepper has also launched a blog in conjunction with its offer. GNR's label, Interscope, was unavailable for comment at deadline.
"Chinese Democracy" was most recently scheduled for release on March 6, 2007, but promptly vanished from the schedule without a new date being set. It will be the first Guns N' Roses album since the 1993 covers collection "The Spaghetti Incident"; in the ensuing decade, the group has burned through a reported $13 million in recording expenses.
