Re: Coachella Festival profile and rumours
I don't get the 2002 love.
That's fair. I fail to see why 2016 should be the best year for Guns in the 21st century by the power of suggestion.
We all know Axl can show up as a bloated Mickey, if he wants to. He's done it before and had a career afterwards.
Part of me would certainly chuckle at seeing him in Vince Neil shape, as then it would blantantly be all about the money.

That's my big fear, too. If CD II is chucked, I'd say that's what we're in for.
But... I think the album is still his priority, 2016 plans were made with DJ who suddenly bailed on them leaving them in the lurch but ended up being the perfect timing. I actually believe Ash that Axl has been training and getting in shape, and I think this was always a scenario for Axl if DJ didn't work out. I firmly believe MSL when he said Slash and Duff have wanted back in since 2008.
Re: Coachella Festival profile and rumours
Any 2016 plans made with DJ and that 09-14 lineup change drastically with a reunion. I doubt much was being planned anyways. They leave and then luck just happens to save the day?
I think this has been in the planning stages for quite some time. I'm also hoping something from those CD sessions gets released but IMO it could go either way. The lack of mentioning that followup album the past 7 years sure looks more interesting now. Can either vaporize it or market it in the aftermath of this.

I'll have to side with Jim in that DJ really fucked up firm plans for 2016, and now has been trying to take credit for bringing Slash back into the fold, which was never his intention and is total BS. I'd say seeing they squashed their beef, Slash became an alternate that whole time, much like Duff. Yeah, I don't think its been planned as a sure thing, but things happened to make it happen. If there's a hybrid band, which is what I believe, it's clear they're rejoining more than a reunion, no matter how it's promoted.

Sorry but isn't that just semantics? I fail to see the difference at this stage or the relevance.
Axl owns the name and has for 20 years, that's never going to change. Slash, Duff et al recording/touring with Axl as GNR is a reunion.
Re: Coachella Festival profile and rumours
Yeah I mentioned about a month or so ago when this hybrid thing popped up that I wish it could somehow be promoted as a continuation and maybe save the reunion thing for down the road if CD II is still in play....but its not gonna happen. Its a reunion no matter how any of us fanboys may wish to slice it. Even if best case scenario occurs and CD II comes out along with anything else it will not have any Chinese stigma attached. Had it come out under the radar before a reunion it could have been their Carnival of Souls. If it comes out after, it'll be their Psycho Circus.

God I cant stand him. DJ joining will always be the low point as far as band members go.

I think he means the media, fans, etc. will call it a reunion no matter who is in the lineup and I agree. As long as its Slash and Axl it gets the reunion tag.

Reunion would be reuniting the afd or uyi line up. They'd be joining the current/Latest/last line up. If they're moving forward with Axl's album, I'd call it rejoining the band, but you know, whatever people see it as. Money is in marketing a reunion. It will be seen as a reunion.

Didn't DJ officially leave at the end of July? Not saying he left to help make a reunion happen but I'm sure reunion wheels were in motion by that stage. Maybe he saw the writing on the wall?
Re: Coachella Festival profile and rumours
Looking at the Vegas lineup (which is a fitting name for them), you got
Axl - DJ - Fortus - Ron - Tommy - Dizzy - Pitman - Frank.
Reshuffle, the guys in bold leave or their contracts expire.
Axl - Slash - Fortus - Izzy - Duff - Dizzy - Pitman - Frank.
Replace them with original members and it's quite balanced.
You get a rhythm section which has been tried and tested on the road and with Duff. This last bit is crucial - Duff, being the bassist, would be the guy to gel this bunch into a solid unit. Izzy I included in this hypothesis for the sake of the argument. Fortus would be the most skilled wingman Slash has ever had, and he's also humble enough to step away from the spotlight. He can do variations on the more exotic leads on CD songs and serve as the all-purpose rhythm / co-lead on older material. With Fortus on stage, Izzy's superfluous in regards to getting the job done.
The argument about Slash refusing to do any and all CD songs sounds like fanboy bitterness to me. Axl would want to have, say, 3 songs included. CD, Better and The Blues come mind. I would imagine Slash would approach them the same way he would take on any cover song. Learn the parts, rehearse with the band and figure out the ways to inject your style into them, to make them your own. Much like how Robin and Bucket did with his stuff to begin with. Why would Slash want to argue with Axl about that? That's asking for trouble.
Lastly, why a hybrid configuration instead of 'just' a reunion? First off, Axl. He has an emotional attachment to the crew that've stood by him for a better part of the decade. I can imagine he'd feel antsy about taking the stage as an AFD 5-piece. He'd need to harken back to 1987 and that might well end in tears. Physique aside, his mental state might prove a stumbling block. Second, CD. I'd imagine Axl would want any reunion to also serve as a continuation of his 'vision' of Guns. He'd need the big band sound to pull off the new songs. Third, the big band sound camouflages the wear on Axl's voice and performance. 1987 was several lifetimes ago.
Axl aside, I find Adler to be a pipedream beyond anything other than guest appearances. The reasons should be obvious to anyone. He'd be a nightmare to get an insurance, and his antics might soon grow tiresome to everyone else. If I were their manager, I'd say 'Fuck this headache' right off the bat. As for Izzy, he'd likely embrace the idea of doing select shows as a full member and perhaps guest appearances on a bigger tour. But knowing Izzy, I can see why he'd like to see where things would go before making any long-term commitments. He would remember 1991 quite vividly.
I'd find that 'hybrid' lineup to be plausible, and it would certainly be an interesting one to see.

From what I understand, they were completely blindsided. At that point, Tommy chose to tour with The Matt's and Replacements, so basically he was out and Duff was in. Ron was already out and they had a contract ready with Orianthi that fell through to replace him. DJ told the band he was leaving a week before he announced it. No discussions with Slash, from what I gather, happened before then. But there was some kind of interaction when the Vegas DVD was released that ended the feud.
