Re: GUNS N' ROSES Rumor: IZZY STRADLIN To Take Limited Role In Reunion Rea

Some of the members made fun of him. Think Tommy was one of them.
Not too surprising given even Axl took offense at some of his antics (watching porn in the studio).
I'd still bet (hope) he'd have been welcomed back with open arms too, before Slash decided to return.
That "Better" video back in the day would have been more effective if the people in it where actually the ones who recorded the music.

He has always been wanted back by Axl, and now that most of those guys are gone it shouldn't fall on any of those issues. But I get the feeling Bucket is done with that whole big band thing.
One of the many problems with CD. How do you promote it when all the key players have left the band? A little bit like releasing Use Your Illusion after Slash left.

4tusis a good player it a very unproven song/riff/solo writer. I hear nothing "distinctive" about his playin except that he borrows a ton from Jeff Beck.

no it is fine! But I know when I hear Finck, Bucket, Slash, Zakk, etc. Fortus you can't tell really

He takes from Jeff Beck on his stuff and his improv stuff. But over all he is not that distinctive though he is a fantastic player. I relate him to a guitar teacher. They can play everything and because of that sometimes they don't develop their own identity very much.
Re: GUNS N' ROSES Rumor: IZZY STRADLIN To Take Limited Role In Reunion Rea
I am utterly bemused & perplexed by mrID's hardon for 4tus & his beliefs in his songwriting ability, & acceptance of hearsay as fact but that's a slightly different matter.
I can only figure we're standing at opposite ends of the spectrum on this subject. I find his posts itt bizarre & confusing.
I'd venture to say it's because he's got his head lodged up his ass, or Axl's ass, or fortus' ass or his insider pals asses, but I don't want to be seen insulting the guy. But really I see no objective explanation for excitement over Richard fortus being in the band. He's a good professional but for christ sake what has he ever done to inspire such fandom?? I don't get it.. I'm not even close to getting it. Is it all because of this idiotic & misguided notion that he's more reliable than Izzy?! I don't know.. I just don't know.. What is the big deal with 4tus?!
I really don't know what to tell you, john, except sorry for perplexing you. I'm only telling this board what I heard, or what's pretty well known in other places, about Richard by people who knew DJ was gone, Duff was back in, Slash and Axl had buried the hatchet and was back in the band before anyone else. I know some guys here stick to this board so I'm just retelling some things I heard that I believe. That's all.
I did become a big Richard fan since 2009. I've never claimed him to be an awesome songwriter, or anything else. And it looks like the band is going to be the hybrid, not an original 5 reunion. My head is up nobody's ass. Do I think Izzy is reliable? No. Do I think Richard is a better songwriter? I have never heard a Richard song. I believe Richard is a better option because I believe Duff and Slash were rejoining the band, not having a reunion. If Izzy wanted back in, he'd be in right now.
Re: GUNS N' ROSES Rumor: IZZY STRADLIN To Take Limited Role In Reunion Rea
I don't think people complaining about Izzy is hipster bullshit.
Why Izzy is important is because he brings the songwriting factor.
Now of course one can argue he can still do it with the boys if he isn't there full-time.
However, having Izzy tour with you puts you in a situation where they have more opportunities to discuss potential ideas for when they ever get back into the studio. Or he could be like oh yeah, I've got this sexy ass riff / lyric / song. What do you think of this sugar tits?
That's why Izzy is so important. He brings that.
Yes he has toured with GN'R for ten years on and off.
Also, correct me if I am wrong but, after Axl, Izzy has the most songwriting contributions to Guns N' Roses.
No Steven Adler is fine by me. Guy is a train wreck. If I was crying over that dude it would definitely be hipster bullshit. As he is by far the easiest person to replace. Not reliable in the least. And a loose cannon.
ALL excellent points and you make a great case for Izzy. If he ever needs a lawyer, I guess he knows who to call...
I do disagree on Adler. He needs to be involved at some point even if minor. Final chapter of that AFD lineup shouldn't be Farm Aid 90. I think even a similar situation(1-2 songs performed at an event) would satisfy most hardcore fans on the AFD issue.
We have no idea how the negotiations are going or anything of that nature, but if they're considering it but don't REALLY want to do it, IMO they should get it out of the way quickly. Give Adler his moment in the sun, let media/fans go ape shit over it, close the books on that era, then move forward.
There are a lot of directions they can go with this thing....like some have said...unveil different lineups at different points in time.
I'm not sure they could have found anyone else who was better at that time (c. 2004)..
Agreed. Weiland with Slither and FTP took them as far as they were ever going to go pop culture wise without Axl.
how 'real' is this reunion?
Great question and IMO how 2016 unfolds will tell us exactly that.
Also notice how in the few official statements it is not being labeled a reunion. The media/fans are calling it that. It is a "regrouping".
I know it will drive James bonkers, but I've heard pretty steadily and adamantly that Richard is going to be all over the next album and will be central in the songwriting.
Maybe not bonkers(but pretty close ), CD II was recorded during those same sessions as CD. Fortus may have brought something to the table at some point since but as I've said before, we heard this same thing 02-08 about Fortus and his fans are still recovering from the shock of those liner notes.
I never heard anyone who seriously knows their shit ever say Richard would be featured on CD in any meaningful way outside Better which he helped flesh out into a song. Maybe some crazed Fortus fans but I seriously missed that whole thing.
Fair point and his fans definitely went too far(I'm looking at you Nesquick!). Having said that, I'm pretty sure Axl mentioned something about it back in 02, and I also remember the mention of Tommy and Fortus working on interludes in 2005(where did THAT go?).
It was during the leaks when a lot of people realized his contributions were going to be minimal at best. I loved asking Fortus fans to pick out one second of Fortus on any of the leaks. They went from praising his contributions to silence. Then when Fortus started admitting he wasn't on the tracks at all(I think he was asked at the time about Maddy and IRS), people knew the score and some of the Tobias hate started fading. It also forced people who had shit on Bucket to either admit they liked his work or admit they hated the songs.
I'm veering into a tangent. I'll stop...
AtomsNest wrote:Bucket was bullied? What happened?
Long story short...
Tommy laughs. Wants to shit in his bucket. Other nonsense. Bucket bails. Project goes into limbo. Tommy stops laughing.
I'd be shocked if whatever Ashba wrote with the band wasn't scrapped. The guy did not fit the music of that era (Chinese Democracy) or the previous eras.
Whatever garbage was recorded the past 7 years will never see the light of day. From Ron's comments its just music snippets because the band never actually did anything in the studio.
DJ was there to help market the nostalgia to a casual crowd. Nothing more, nothing less. If he ever had serious thoughts he'd appear on a GNR album he was smoking way too much crack.
and that is a bad thing?
No. The minority who never cared much for the guy aren't even bothered by it. In the bizarro world of GNR it makes sense to include him in the reunion. Never would've said that years ago.

Hey, I predicted this exact line-up way back when.
