The inside the episode piece after the show had one of the writers call him "coldhand Benjen", so they basically rewrote that character to fit the show's plot.

What got me was the mention of Brotherhood without Banners, and I wonder if this means the return of Zombie mama Stark.
I thought maybe he mentioned them because they don't follow the Lannisters/Tommond since they are like an outlaw militia.

I haven't read the books, but I gather there's a pretty big plot point that lady stone heart wants Brienne to lure Jaimie to her clutches, and this season is leading to Jaimie and Brienne headed for the same place.

Another catch, when Dany asks how many ships she needs to transport her army to Westeros, she's told a thousand. And Euron Greyjoy just happened to order up a thousand ships! What are the odds?!

Yup, that stuff is gold. I'm sure his dad isn't going to stand for that. I am curious where Theon and his sister are headed as most likely they're staying in Westeros and they don't have a lot of allies. I'm really curious about the mad king flashback. It shows wild fire, burn them all, and Jamie killing him.
