Re: EURO 2016 Thread
All NI need to do is not get hammered by Germany tomorrow (I think). Surely it's doable .
Re: EURO 2016 Thread
APE, if I wanted to watch the Wales game, what channel would I switch to?
They've been doing this for the past few tournaments now. ITV/BBC shouldn't have rights to 2 games that are being played at the same time, if both aren't shown.
I remember a time when all the games were shown on some channel or another...

Re: EURO 2016 Thread
What a snooze fest. Typical England tournament performance.
I feel a bit sorry for them in that they've played 3 teams who were totally content to play out a draw and 'hold what they had', making it very difficult to exploit the space guys like Vardy would thrive on. That said these weren't exceptional teams and if we struggle to break down Russia and Slovakia we have little hope against a much more organised well drilled defence. The consolation being that it's knockout now so teams should be playing for a win which might free up some space.
One of Hungary, Portugal, Iceland or Austria up next.

More importantly, QF against an unconvincing France (probably) if you make it past one of those teams.
If you don't make the QFs, their can't be any excuse for Hodgson staying. It's a shame you're shafted afterwards for choices. Media hated Capello despite him having the highest win record (pre German game) and Sven even though you were at least making the QF's under him just because they were foreign.
Better hope you don't get Redknapp.

Re: EURO 2016 Thread
True, we've arguably ended up in the more favourable half of the draw. It's very possible if we'd won the group we could have ended up playing a strong Croatia side and if we'd won that probably Italy in the QF. I would choose Hungary/Portugal then a France QF over that.
Yes QF should be an absolute minimum really. Particularly considering the extended format and relatively easy group we had. Although candidates to replace Hodgeson aren't really screaming out. I'd rather look at Hoddle again over Redknapp.
I could see someone like Moyes getting it simply by default. I think Neville would have been the longer term plan if he hadn't made such a hash of the Valencia opportunity. I'd have liked Koeman if he hadn't just gone to Everton. Van Gaal did well with Holland at the last WC so he could be an option although it doesn't feel like a great fit and I'm not sure he'd want to be back under the UK media spotlight again so soon.
We won a lot of games under Cappello but it was generally dreadful football. That 2010 WC was a disaster, 2 coma inducing draws and a not much better 1-0 against Slovenia followed by a battering by Germany. His win ratio may have been good but the 4 matches that really counted were horrendous.
