Re: How Realistic Do You Think A 3rd World War Is?
I voted 'likely'.
Having said that, what would be considered WWIII? There will never be another war like WWII. As Divney pointed out, some think the Cold War was WWIII and some believe WWIII started on 9/11 and is still going and will continue for generations. Would a nuclear exchange by any countries be considered a world war?
We live in a dangerous world with various terrorist organizations, an unstable EU, and major countries like Russia and China wanting to branch out of their containment and compete with US supremacy. The US is a hyper power and a huge obstacle to any sort of situation that the world has dealt with in its history.
IMO there are very few scenarios that could lead to a major conflict....
-North Korea launching missiles at Japan or invading South Korea
This would cause a catastrophic retaliation by the US. Any country from Russia to Zimbabwe watched that US-NK crisis from several years ago with awe. Within a matter of several days the US had moved its chess pieces to where it could basically wipe the entire continent of Asia off the map in the blink of an eye. In various 'war games' it is assumed that China and/or Russia would intervene in a US-NK conflict. In the event of its actual occurrence do you REALLY think they are going to get involved? I have my doubts. When B-1, B-2, and B-52s are circling the north pole ready to fly into Pyongyang and with a simple, instantaneous change of target package can be on their way to Moscow and Beijing..... they're going to let NK twist in the wind.
Russia invasion of Europe
They went into Georgia in 2008 and Ukraine a couple years ago... annexing Crimea. How much further are they willing to go? What does the US consider the line in the sand? The Baltic states? Poland? Germany? That is the answer to the European trip wire to WWIII. While the Cold War is ancient history, a war between the US and Russia taking place on the European continent has always been a possibility.
China invades Taiwan
Very risky but I have always wondered how serious the US response to this would actually be. Neither side wishes to acknowledge this scenario so its just out there in limbo. At some point in the future this will be put to the test.
Incident in EU
Not sure how civil unrest or even a dictator rising in one of these countries would lead to WWIII. There are only two nuclear powers in the EU and while Germany is rising and has been for years, they may forever be held in check by the US/Russia.
In the coming decades as the world continues to quench its thirst on resources in the third world, this could eventually lead to global conflict. Continued advancement in tech may prevent this though.
One more possibility would be some sort of doomsday attack on the US like an EMP. The US would likely just let the nukes fly everywhere and take the whole world out with us.
Re: How Realistic Do You Think A 3rd World War Is?
I am concerned we're going to see some sort right wing driven ethic cleansing event similar to the Holocaust only with Muslims this time.
The world is one major terrorist attack away from an Einsatzgruppen type retaliation. I doubt it would lead to WWIII though.
Re: How Realistic Do You Think A 3rd World War Is?
When I was growing up in the 80s there was constant undertone of fear...would we go to war with Russia? Nuclear weapons and so on...
My Mom worked for the foreign service many years before my birth and had the fortune of working in embassies around the world. It was of her opinion that WW 3 with Russia was highly unlikely during that time. She always said her main concern was some nutcase getting their hands on nuclear weapons in the Middle East. Looking back on that statement, I find it mirrors my sentiments today. That would be my primary concern way before any WW 3 type scenario happening. The old gal may be a PITA, but she was right about stuff like this IMO.

Re: How Realistic Do You Think A 3rd World War Is?
I think the global situation depends on what happens in America first.
America desperately needs to find a new economic model or possibly some political/corporate changes that allow for moderation to the neo-liberal economic model.
The current level of wealth inequality is simply unsustainable. Those statistics Bernie Sanders cites aren't just zingers for his campaign. At some point society as we know it simply can not continue to function when 58% of all new income goes to the top 1%, The top 1/10th of 1% owns the same as the bottom 90% of people. The trends clearly show these things worsen every year and have a corresponding effect on education, child poverty and all the things that provide for a prosperous future America in the long term.
At some point if these things can not be resolved by the leaders they will be resolved by the populace. Look at what that populace is - a heavily armed society with decades of racial tension and other inequalities simmering under the surface. It will start with an attack on the rich - but soon will degenerate into racial disputes/war and general anarchy. Think Rodney King mixed with the French revolution.
As some point it would end but who knows how things would look then.
Meanwhile, once this sort of conflict begins in the USA, depending on how unlucky we are, the stage is set for any international troublemakers to make their move in other regions, as the major current deterrent to something like a new world war will be heavily distracted.

Australia should be ok whatever happens.
Unless the Tasmanians start an uprising..
Re: How Realistic Do You Think A 3rd World War Is?
I didn't vote anything, because I don't think it's that simple of an answer. At this stage of the game, the only real war would be nuclear. The status elites have been planning for it for years with fallout shelters and underground retreats. But they are also the ones with the finger on the button.
Obama's handling of foreign policy has been deplorable to say the least. Russia's involvement in Ukraine was to protect it's own sovereignty from the EU (aka foreign bankers, aka NWO). U.S. is in-league with the NWO as of now, and has pretty much become the heel of the world. We're hated everywhere, and with good cause. We are the aggressors. What it's lead to is a rise in people who enjoy in the "thought" of hating America, but with no real organization, no real leadership, no real future, because the power brokers are all controlling these pieces back and forth.
Which leads me to the next thing. America is the great devil. But for most of the world it's "The Devil They Know". America is like clockwork, which alot of countries NEED to be that devil when they need a devil, and that angel when they need an angel.
Russia is the only country I could see as scared, especially because Obama doesn't talk to Putin (mainly because Putin is 50x smarter than Obama and he's intimidated by Vlad), but at the same time Russia couldn't be the first strike in a nuclear war without slitting it and it's countrymen's own wrists.
China talks big, manipulates markets, and threatens. But China needs the U.S. money and jobs for their crony-captialist Anarchist-Community bullshit country they have.
The better question is, if Trump means anything in the slightest of what he's saying, AND could pull it off, would the outside world suddenly become desperate and threatened by a truly isolationist-America? Would they make a move to beg, an act of war, for money, for business? How desperate would they get?
Either way... whatever Snowden told the Russian government, Putin is preparing to turn Russia isolationist. Whatever they're preparing for, I don't know, but they certainly are taking it serious (Ukraine).
I don't think the future is a World War, the future is adapting the world into a One World Goverment/Economy-ideology. Those who refuse, get left behind or eliminated Person of Interest-style.
Problem is, with the way everything is set up, everyone kind of needs the other. I still don't buy ISIS is a real threat, other than a media and state department creation. You can't declare war on them, it's too large, yet at the same time there's no real organization either. It's all kind of like scattered, crazed, chickens running around with AK's.
There's more people killed on the earth every year in car wrecks than by terrorism or any war threat. Nobody is banning cars.
I find it hard to believe going into the future there will be any real war threat. Serious war. It's already existed. Police state kills an emprisons millions every year. Needless military action does the same.
Does someone have to call it a 'World War'?
This is the future. We're already here. War time, death, destruction, murder... it's just a 30 second blip on the news, and people then go back to playing Candy Crush on Fagbook. NO ONE CARES.
It's done
The Devil Won

I don't buy it. Sorry. Just because the media keeps telling me it's a real threat doesn't make it so.
I am more likely to get killed by a police officer in my country than by a terrorist.
Fact.
Re: How Realistic Do You Think A 3rd World War Is?
In your country. Go fuck yourself coming out with that idiotic bile the day after the fucking 5th suicide attack on Turkey this fucking year you ignorant fuck. 41 fucking people died yesterday at the hands of this media & state department creation.
Where the hell do you get the nerve, or lack of compassion or just plain ignorance to come out with that shite?! Are you not embarrassed??

I have A TON OF SYMPATHY FOR THOSE PEOPLE
You fuck
But Turkey is also the same country that helps SELL ISIS STOLEN OIL you ignorant fuck
Don't you find it ODD that the country that is YOUR BIGGEST SUPPORTER IN THE MIDDLE EAST, is the country that you're going to attack? While would ISIS attack IT'S BIGGEST ALLY? WHY? Because it's not ISIS. It's whatever Israeli Intelligence or Mossad decides it's going to be this week.
WAKE UP MOTHER FUCKER
I want punishment. I want it fast. I want it HARD I WANT THEM ALL TO PAY.
But before we got putting bullets in the heads of more brown people, we need to start with the suits and ties in the U.S., Israel, the U.K., and the EU that allowed ALL OF THIS to happen, as well as the SHIT HOLE COUNTRIES like Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran and others that ALLOW SHARIA LAW and allow ALL THESE COCKSUCKERS a platform.
41 people dead, my heart bleeds
Where's the outpouring of tears over the girl in Pakistan who GOT BURNED ALIVE BY HER OWN MOTHER AND BROTHER
Why?
Because she dared to marry the man SHE WANTED
The nutters are a problem. I agree. But more war ISN'T THE SOLUTION. KEEPING SADDAM'S. KEEPING ASSAD'S in power to RULE THESE ANIMALS WITH AN IRON FUCKING FIST
THAT is the solution.
