Re: The United Kingdom General Election, 2nd May 2024
Will Farage suddenly appear in the Tories now, despite never winning an election to be an MP?
Andrea Leadsom is very scary. Seen the clip released of her yesterday saying leaving the EU was a bad idea a few years ago, before she realized this was a faster way up the ladder?
Gove is evil.
May is the establishment pick, which is worrying enough.
I don't like Fox.
The only thing I know about Crabb is that he voted to reduce ESA and absolutely does not represent the little man.
These are the choices that Tories members have for our next PM? It's not looking good.

It's slim pickings no doubt.
I admire Jeremy Corbyn to an extent he seems like a good and principled man. However he is not a real leader. Someone with more charisma was needed for the remain campaign. A lot of people weren't going to listen to Cameron on principle no matter how much sense he made. Part of the reason we're here now is Labour have made such a mess of things.
This Tory goverment has never been a particlarly strong one and yet the best Labour has mustered in opposition is Milliband and Corbyn. Their ineptitude over the past 5-10 years is as much to blame as the Tories.
Although perhaps things will change, I think I'd vote for decaying pond life over Gove.

Something about leadsom I find quite sexy..
She's a horrible nutter tho.
So are they all. Thick as pig shit too except may & gove. Hateful fuckers mind.
Aye this crisis goes back a while. I blame Blair too. & the lib dems. & everyone. It's fuckin shite.
Don't believe farage as far as he makes me throw up. He's retired a couple of times before. He'll come worming his way back before too long. He's a parasite, can't survive too long without feeding off a host.
Re: The United Kingdom General Election, 2nd May 2024
So May's priority at the minute seems to be to rally the Tories behind renewing Trident and this is who's probably going to be leading the opposition at the current rate;
Re: The United Kingdom General Election, 2nd May 2024
What the fuck is wrong with voting for nuclear weapons? They've had them for years. Do you want your arsenal rotting or would you rather it be upgraded to keep up its use as a deterrent?
You guys wanting to go the Australia route and not have to worry about anything since the US keeps you under its nuclear umbrella?
That's not a knock against Australia.

Re: The United Kingdom General Election, 2nd May 2024
Since the crash in 08 various politicians have made a point of saying they'd scrap Trident (our nuclear subs) if they were in power. Savage cuts to public services have been made annually while we spend £X billion on maintaining and upgrading Trident every year etc etc.
Jeremy Corbyn (leader of the opposition) has publically said if he were PM he would never push the button anyway therefore we may as well spend the money elsewhere.
As one of only two nuclear countries in Europe I think a nuclear deterrent in the UK is essential, especially while Putin is around. Europe would be more of a sitting duck than it is already.

Watch Ken Clarke Get Caught On Camera on Saying What He Really Thinks About Michael Gove and Boris Johnson
Another ‘oh is this thing on’ moment
Tory grandee Ken Clarke was caught on camera today revealing what he really thinks about the Conservative leadership contenders.
Speaking to former Foreign Secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind, Clarke didn’t hold back on his views on those hoping to take over from David Cameron.
The former Chancellor, who failed three times to be elected Tory Party leader, seemingly didn’t realise the cameras were rolling and the mic was on as he made his comments.
Here are some of his views:
Michael Gove
“I think with Michael as Prime Minister we would go to war with at least three countries at once.”
“He did us all a favour by getting rid of Boris. Having Boris as Prime Minister is ridiculous.”
Andrea Leadsom
“I don’t think either Andrea Leadsom or Boris Johnson are actually in favour of leaving the European Union.
“She’s not of the tiny band of lunatics who think we can have a glorious economic future outside of the Single Market. So long as she understands she’s not to deliver on some of the extremely stupid things she’s been saying.”
Theresa May
“Theresa is a bloody difficult woman, but you and I worked for Margaret Thatcher.”
“She is good but she is too narrow on her department. She’s been in the Home Office far too long.”
Stephen Crabb
“I might give Stephen Crabb an encouraging vote first, but I don’t know what Crabb’s views are on most things.”
Liam Fox
“He is much more right-wing than me.”
Voting in the Tory leadership contest began today, and the contender with the lowest number of votes from MPs will be eliminated this evening.

That's crazy. The Brits have a killer nuclear deterrent as the subs which aren't easily detectable provides Russia no sitting ducks to launch its ICBMs against.
Israel has a similar nuclear deterrent. It works.
Jeremy Corbyn (leader of the opposition) has publically said if he were PM he would never push the button anyway therefore we may as well spend the money elsewhere.
Jesus Christ. No one should vote for someone with such a stand.
Re: The United Kingdom General Election, 2nd May 2024
Of course some would....you have the safety of the US nuclear umbrella to save you from any potential nuclear threats. Just seems to me like the Brits would like to have their own deterrent without always needing the US to save the day in a crisis but European history has a pattern of repeating itself.
There are a handful of scenarios(small no doubt) where the US may not intervene. Seems like you'd want your own arsenal if any of those were to rear their ugly head.
