That was awesome to see, or read.
I work in the media, so this is not awesome to me.
However, I will point out he was meeting with TV media, not newspapers like I work at. TV news has been pretty shitty, but to call them all liars is a bit much. Being wrong or bad at your job doesn't make you a liar.
Controlling the media is a dictatorship thing, and I don't think it should be cheered.
Lots of people on this board enjoy it when The Donald has temper tantrums. I might enjoy it to if it weren't for his inability to articulate or eloquent.

I mean awesome for entertainment value. He will be fair but yes, he will try to control the narrative. Like they all do.
Re: US Politics Thread
A reality TV star who behaves like bully & espouses reactionary regressive ideas in the highest office of public service.. yea, the entertainment value argument is totally undermined by the significance of the damage it's doing.
The whole idea was a really bad joke from the beginning that got completely out of hand & now look at what you've got..

Well, listen to the content and don't pay attention to the noise and you will see he has been very reasonable and condemned the racist shit and won't go after Hillary yet you pussies are so worried about Trump hurting feelings. Haha... go fuck yourselves. Let's judge him over real matters and not this silly shit.
Re: US Politics Thread
What damage has he done? He's not even president yet.
Paul Ryan just celebrated passing legislation barring Obama from doing anything in the final days in office.
How can you ask liberals and dems to grow up and turn the other cheek and tolerate the grotesque behavior these childish, career politician men.
Paul Ryan is a fraud and a hypocrite. The ultimate douche.
He's a total hack. I'm really hoping some of these types are voted out in the next election cycle or two. It amazes me that he would even get one vote. Its time for the American people to continue the purge. We just stopped one war mongering corporate whore from getting in the driver's seat so now lets toss some of the passengers out the window as well.
Its the perfect time for the independents to make a move up the ladder.
This right here is why the fan base will die for this man. When have we ever seen anything like this?
Hitler(print media) and the antichrist in the Left Behind series. Not comparing him to the two but a complete owning of the media to such an extent is unprecedented here.
ON one hand it is troubling but on the other you can see where he's coming from. The major media outlets were just propaganda wings of the HIllary 2016 machine, didn't even bother hiding this fact, and now its time for Trump to cook up that dish that's best served cold.
Said it before but the media needs some sort of reset. Its time to go back to actually covering the news as neutral observers.....not pushing agendas and telling us how much they hate specific people and love another and you're a worthless piece of trash if you disagree with them.
It doesn't work anymore....obviously.
I'll take the days of Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings, hell even Joan LUnden over Rachel Maddow, Glenn Beck, and Anderson Cooper any day of the week.
I cant wait for historians down the road to give an honest account of how all of this transpired. We're now too close to the event for that. Everything in general needs to settle down and both extremes pull their panties back up.

I agree that under normal conditions it is a step towards a dictatorship but IMO what our country has just endured isn't anything remotely resembling normal conditions. The major media outlets have been exposed to a degree. We may even be in the opening phase of a backlash.
If there's a positive to take from that meeting, it's that he actually name dropped specific individuals and outlets. It would be much more disturbing if he was against all media in general. If his meeting yesterday were to become a huge media story, there will be no controversy because many people agree with the basic overall point. I wouldn't label them all as liars either but they were definitely pushing an agenda.
The look on the faces of all those "experts" on CNN and the others on election night was priceless. YOu knew he had won even before the polls closed in half the country. They went from being cocky to being near tears within hours. That's not how the media is supposed to cover an election.
Go fuck yourself. Outside of the Internet fringes/daily express, you'll not find much support for a Breitbart nut that's failed to become an MP 7 times in different regions. The guy is so toxic even the right wing want nothing to do with him.
I don't know a lot about the guy but isn't he one of the clowns that pushed for the UK to leave the EU but then had not even the slightest clue what should be done after the vote? If so..... he definitely needs to exit stage left.
Its also possible that Trump made the statement as part of a political strategy and playing mind games. I doubt he seriously thought they would take him up on the suggestion. If he was being serious, its time he start listening to his advisers.
, it's a distraction technique to the appointments he is making.
Such tactics happens continuously in politics. Fuck...we just endured it for months straight. A tidal wave of emails surface showing Hillary and the DNC mocking the poor people who vote for them, admitting their own primaries were rigged, etc. and the media outlets shilling for them have the public focusing on Putin and grabbing pussy.
Fair is fair.....
They have proven over the course of the campaign their ability to change the story being talked about, and continue to do so. "If you don't like what's being talked about, change the conversation." They're really excellent at manipulating people via this technique.
You're right and I just gave a perfect example of this above. DNC rigged its primary? Mocks their own voter base? Who gives a fuck. Trump grabbed a pussy! Take into consideration this was coming from people who cared nothing about Bill Clinton sticking cigars up the same pussies and being accused of sexual assaults.
2) Create voter ID laws that seem reasonable but actually block more people from voting than they do prevent voter fraud.
This issue doesn't concern me. A person who cant figure out how to vote doesn't need to be voting. Period. Obviously it needs to be simplified instead of trying to complicate matters but you don't have to be a rocket scientist to vote.
Re: US Politics Thread
To answer polluxlum, we've seen the likes of this all too often in history. It's called an abuse of power. You still see it around the world. Maybe you should move to the Philippines if you're impressed by this sorta temperament.
Surely you'd want your leader to be magnanimous & even mercifully, forgiving and fair. But maybe not. Maybe the example he's setting and the culture he's enabling are your cup of tea. To me it's repulsive, sad, worrying and unedifying. Divisive, that word SG is so keen on.
Duterte is killing thousands of people without due process and calls world leaders "son of a whore". It's not quite the same as Trump rightfully telling a bunch of crooks off. Whatever side you are on the media campaign against Trump has been dishonest. Can't even fight a man on even terms. Who gives a shit he lets them hear it? That's what you want a leader to do, stamping out injustice. Not just all this posturing and empty phrases we usually get.
Re: US Politics Thread
This cant possibly be true. The media told us he hates women yet in reality had plans to potentially nominate a woman for Sec of Defense.
I think its a smart move. It also eliminates a potential contender in the 2020 race.
Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a high-profile Bernie Sanders supporter during the Democratic primaries, is “under serious consideration” for various Cabinet positions in President-elect Donald Trump's administration, according to a senior official on the transition team.
According to the official, the 35-year-old Hawaii congresswoman is being looked as a candidate for secretary of state, secretary of defense or United Nations ambassador. If selected, Gabbard will be the first woman as well as the youngest pick for Trump's Cabinet.
She met with him this morning in his New York City offices at Trump Tower. The Trump transition source said that their sit-down was a “terrific meeting” and that the Trump team sees her as very impressive.
Gabbard, a progressive Democrat, has bucked her party in Congress and during the contentious Democratic primaries. In February she left her position as vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee to support Sanders. In the House she has broken with Democrats on the Syrian civil war (she supports keeping President Bashar al-Assad in power) and Syrian refugees (she voted for a GOP bill last year to conduct stricter background checks on refugees).
This afternoon she released a long statement on her meeting with Trump, saying he asked to meet with her about "our current policies regarding Syria, our fight against terrorist groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS, as well as other foreign policy challenges we face.” She said they had a “frank and positive conversation in which we discussed a variety of foreign policy issues in depth."
"I felt it important to take the opportunity to meet with the president-elect now before the drumbeats of war that neocons have been beating drag us into an escalation of the war to overthrow the Syrian government — a war which has already cost hundreds of thousands of lives and forced millions of refugees to flee their homes in search of safety for themselves and their families," she said in the statement, adding that she would not let politics get in the way of meeting with the president-elect. "I never have and never will play politics with American and Syrian lives."
She added that when she disagrees with Trump, "I will not hesitate to express that disagreement."
"However, I believe we can disagree, even strongly, but still come together on issues that matter to the American people and affect their daily lives. We cannot allow continued divisiveness to destroy our country … I shared with him my grave concerns that escalating the war in Syria by implementing a so-called no fly/safe zone would be disastrous for the Syrian people, our country and the world," she said. "It would lead to more death and suffering, exacerbate the refugee crisis, strengthen ISIS and al-Qaeda and bring us into a direct conflict with Russia, which could result in a nuclear war. We discussed my bill to end our country’s illegal war to overthrow the Syrian government and the need to focus our precious resources on rebuilding our own country and on defeating al-Qaeda, ISIS and other terrorist groups who pose a threat to the American people."

I know you've said that before about the voter ID thing....I'll ask you a question or two and let the issue rest if need be.
Certainly there are voter safeguards that make sense. But I'm wondering if you see a certain set of rules possibly being used to benefit a party's agenda.
I know it's just Wisconsin - so nobody really cares.
But let's consider those same rules being applied in Kansas where the state economy is basically dead. Same as Wisconsin.
Would you at least entertain the idea that the voter IDs could be used to discourage or depress voting in certain demographics?
What's the purpose of eliminating on-campus voting?
Re: US Politics Thread
Mitch I agree with you in spirit. They certainly attempt to manipulate the rules to what they believe is their advantage. This shouldn't even be possible though. Even with obstacles being added, its not difficult to vote. If voters are having difficulties, get your ballot in the mail. I assume all states have this option.
I know it's just Wisconsin - so nobody really cares.
I would disagree with that. Wisconsin looks to be turning into a battleground state. If anyone is going to care about the issue, might want to aim the focus on those states.

The damage he's done is foster attitudes and an atmosphere that gives rise to people to express ignorant opinions & actions they should be ashamed of. He's enabled a hatred to become acceptable. He's lowered the standard of expectation with his behaviour. He's a bully.
& this thing about the media being propaganda wings of Hillary is bizarre. The media LOVE Trump & have given him unprecedented coverage, somewhere in the region of 5billion worth of FREE air time! They have helped elect him by keeping him as the sole news story. He tweets at 3am, they report it at 8 & run with it all day long, until he says something crass & vulgar the next morning and the cycle starts again.
No shit they're pushing an agenda. Trump means ratings. You think guys like Kaisch & Sanders bring the same heat?
You are in the opening phase of a backlash that's true. He's going to do his best to dismantle the freedom of the press & tough up libel/defamation laws, or soften them as the case may actually be.
It's hard to think of anyone, operating in any medium, who has benefitted more from the media than Trump. There really isn't anyone, or anything. That's kinda what unprecedented means..
I really don't understand where you Trump supporters are coming from on this, except of course singing from the hymn sheet you've been given.
